Hi all,

My other half really likes the look of the Nissan Juke.

Does anyone own one or have any experience with them? Good, bad or indifferent? Don't want to waste my time looking at one for her if they are no good.

Cheers.

I've been driving one this week, it's ok if you like that sort of thing
Engine is fine (petrol) but I don't like the gearbox
Small boot also

I have one on the Nissan employee lease scheme and i love it. Its the 1.5 DCi NTEC and i think its a great drive.

Ok so its not the sort of thing you go and buy to thrash around expecting it to keep up with an average hot hatch but the Diesel engine is pretty pokey especially when you select the sport setting.
Most of my driving is on the motorway and with the cruise set it purrs along quite nicely and is comfortable on a long run too.

Ok it probably wouldn't of been my first choice if i was buying a car but i'm not dissapointed i chose it.

im looking at them at the moment for my parents.

I hear that the petrol drives better than the diesel (from several sources) - The interior is a bit plastic - i found one with a completely worn out gear knob (silver worn away to yellow plastic) in just 30k on the clock !

But for a new, cheap, funky car they arent too bad. Im trying to find a Countryman for similar money at the moment, as its quirky and better built, but im struggling

The Petrol 117hp is a bit sluggish - but its for my old folks
The diesel is Ok, but not that quick
The DiG-T is quicker but with 190hp it doesnt gel as a package. The Nismo is a marketing exercise.

They are just turning 3 years since launch - so there are loads on the used market & prices will dip.
I was offered an 18 month old car with 7k on it for 11,000.

Visia is the base spec
Accenta is better with climate
Accenta Premium tends to have the red interior upgrade
Ntec has the touch screen and a few bells

Leather is a rare option

I say without wishing to cause any offence to anyone:
They are the same as all these trendy niche vehicles... compromised!
Too tall to handle well on the road, along with bigger tires
Not designed to go off road, (which they are partly trying to look like)
Not as big on the inside as the outside looks,
The list could go on...

They are purely trying to appeal to people who want the latest fad, IMO complete waste of time and money.

If you want a practical run-a-round, buy a hatchback/saloon/estate.
If you want a mud plugger, buy a proper 4WD.
If you want a 'sporty' car buy a proper 'sports car'

My folks-in-law bought a Mitsibushi ASX, it is along the same sort of lines although not as 'dynamically styled'... complete waste of their money despite me trying to advise them otherwise because of all the above points, I have driven it plenty previously and now try to avoid it.

However:
If you want a 'funky' looking box to get from A to B in that has no other particularly good features then buy a Juke or one of its equally useless competitors.

(This is based mostly on my personal opinion and is in no way meant to offend or upset. Please don't worry about posting back telling me I'm wrong etc as its horses for courses
Love to all!)

^^^ All this and more ^^^
After driving my new (to me) 350Z, I borrowed my dad's Juke today; it felt bloody awful!
Every control felt sluggish, brakes were crap, the clutch biting point is very high
The fact it felt slow isn't much of a surprise, but it's low geared so you're revving the tits off it
all the time.
In a word; crap (just don't tell my old man, he loves it!)

I have been running a Juke 4x4 in Norway for a year, it has been fantastic in the snow with snow tyres, been a blast when the roads were dry in "Sport" mode on summer tyres. When in "ECO" mode and 2WD you can get decent MPG, I'll be sad to see it go (in the classifieds at the momement), best CVT car I have driven. Don't knock it until you have used one for a while. If the need arries again I would get another.

Not driven one, but have always thought they looked a bit odd. There's a facelift model due in showrooms soon, however, that does improve things somewhat.

I'm not sure in what way an ASX isn't a practical run around?

And it could only be a complete waste of money if it didn't work and had no value.

On the Juke, my SIL has one (also on the Nissan employee scheme) and it seems to do the job that she asks of it perfectly adequately.

We've had a Nismo juke for a couple weeks now and I think it's great. The Nismo is fully loaded and with 200bhp is pretty quick, quicker then I expected and lots of fun in sport mode also. It handles well with minimal body roll considering it's size, the brakes are good, clutch is light and steering is responsive. It surprises a lot of cars on the road.

Boot and rear access is small but other than that I can't find much wrong.

I'd go further than odd, I think they look truly awful wink But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

They are a bit of a Marmite car really. There are loads on the road and a big seller for Nissan so can't be that bad. Just something different rather than the standard boring car look.

Always liked the look as they are much nicer tthe usual two box designs that most of the kind seem to follow.Tried a Nismo version a while ago, impressed by the seats, sat nav, but felt it would be the better for a further hike in engine output.Suspension did feel like a compromise though, handled nice enough but felt under developed.Nismo-very expensive badging exercise.

My mate has got a 1.5 DCi NTEC and it is pretty nice to drive but with a plastic interior. The boot is a little small but the drive is comfortable and the mpg is just shy of 50 with the majority urban driving. A good all round car!

It is a little funny because every time he takes it for a wash they try and charge him the 4x4 price because of its appearance despite it being smaller than a Focus in length and width but bigger in height.

Love the look of them however I got to drive one on the Captur launch and I was very dissapointed, interior is cheap, visibility is rubbish, space in the back and the boot is poor and the petrol 1.6 is gutless; all it seems to do is get louder the more you press the throttle, it doesn't seem to get faster.

However it is a generation older so won't feel as nice to drive or sit in as a new, just launched model.

If you are looking at new go and have a look at the Captur or even the 2008 or the Suzuki (cant remember the name).

One good thing with the launch of the Captur, 2008 etc is that used Juke prices have fallen significantly.

The newish model from them is the SX4 Cross, but I'd have thought that quite a bit bigger? The smaller SX4 is a pretty old car now.

If it was that, I'd be interested to know what you thought.

We'll look at Captur too. Despite what people say about Renault, we had a ClioII in the family for 5yrs and it was faultless.
