Owned a IS200 saloon for 10 years - great cars, but thirsty!

Only costs I incurred during my ownership was servicing, tyres, brakes etc. Oh, watch out for front inner tyre wear, put the wheels on full lock. If the inners are bold then the geometry needs sorting out.

The factory geometry settings are wrong, however Wheels-in-motion (www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk) have re-written the geometry settings to fix the inner tyre wear issue.

Lastly cambelt needs changing every 60k/5 years. Also change the idler, tensioner and waterpump with a cambelt change. It's not necessary to swap the waterpump when changing the cambelt but if you need to change a leaky waterpump later then it's a cambelt off job.

We've had an IS300 Sportcross for about 3 years, largely the same car with the same minor problems........the head units for the stereo always go wrong without exception. I worked for Lexus for a long time and knew about the tyre wear issue, but it seems specific to the oe brand of Bridgestone tyres, ours in now on Goodyear Assymetrics and hasn't experienced uneven tyre wear since these were fitted, with the added benefit that they're just a better, newer design of tyre in every respect. The alloys seem to corrode annoyingly easily.

Ignition switches on the early saloons used to fall apart at about 50k miles, but I think, iirc, this was rectified by the manufacturer before they released the SC. Ours had noisy front shocks when driven from cold on a bumpy road, oddly didn't do it when the car had done a few more miles of driving.....they were replaced under warranty on ours, it's relatively common, but more annoying than a cause for concern.

It will generally be a much more reliable, dependable car than just about anything else at the money, just no ball of fire!

Car's dont get much more reliable than these build at a time when toyota over engineered stuff!

I've had mine for just over 2 years. It's no rocket but I like the engine sound as you pass 4000rpm. Swap the air filter for a K&N. Lexus owners' club as lots of info on faults - not that there are many!

I am considering replacing my aging legacy outback with one but concerned about boot size for the dog. More interested in the 300 because it will have to be an auto but do like the slightly odd look to them.

Depends on the size of the dog, ours ( border collie, sort of ) loves it.

He would fit but he's an ex rescue and not very good in the car, we have used a cage for the last few years that he settles in. The cage almost fills the legacy boot so I doubt it fit but perhaps it won't be needed anymore in his old age.
Some of the reviews complain about the is300 gearbox is it a problem? I don't have any trouble with the 15 year old subaru gearbox so don't expect it to be. Just after something a bit more agile.

Sorry, just seen this.......we bought a thing called a " hatchbag ", which is basically tailormade for any given car, and is a soft plastic cover that fits into the boot and protects all surfaces from any accidents the dog produces. That, combined with a dog bed makes it a pretty respectable place to be, at least for a dog of Beths medium size.

Don't know of any issues with the boxes, other than ones arising from neglect................I used to work for Lexus, so i'm reasonably up to speed with the few issues they do have, the box isn't the last word in sophistication, but it's reliable.

Has anyone got a solution for tall people to be able to fit it one (seat mods etc?) I have fancied one since they came out, but I am just too tall to fit in.
