I have a friend at work who has a 2006 micra. Now this micra has a problem with the steering on it and has been told its a common fault and its to do with the steering colum (electric)

So it has been to the main dealer and they have said that engine has to be removed and the who unit has to be rest on it? They have quoted £400 for the reset.

So has anyone got experience of this and what did they do to solve the problem?

Usual problem is the electric power steering unit, mounted behind the steering wheel. This is shown in this pic:



Nissan only supply new units, companies such as BBA Reman do exchange units. There are several different versions depending on spec. Have no idea why you`re being advised to remove the engine, never heard of that before.
