....on a 2004 MR2, is what I have just been quoted (new bumper supplied by me from eBay after muppet crunched the one on my gf's car while it was parked and did a runner). Is there something intrinsically complex about a Toyota bumper that I'm not aware of?! hehe Surely it can't be that complicated....

Sounds like they haven't done one before and have no idea how long it takes, so they are playing it safe with the allotted time.

bumper off and new one on in 40 mins. maybe a bit longer if theres fogs to fit, grilles etc. Not much to it.

You and a mate, a philips screwdriver, a 10mm socket, instructions from mr2 club website, and a picnic blanket to lie on + not scuff the bumper... Sorted.
