Mazda 6 diesel (2004) using oil

Hey folks,
My dads Mazda 6 TS5 diesel is using up oil at a fast rate. Believe we've narrowed it down to the PCV(or similar thing) valve being clogged open. Research online and viewing the engine bay in detail has led us to that.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, resolved it, or any tips for repair?
It looks like it's an inlet manifold off job and a few other bits n bobs but shouldn't be too much of an issue. Like I said, just after any tips/comments on this.
