Morning folks, I'm considering selling two of my aging Jap fleet and going for aforementioned toy in the thread title. I just noticed a nice one for sale in the classifieds here so rang the seller. I explained how I have a pair of Jap imports already and how the MOT here in the north of Ireland is apparently more stringent than across the water in old blighty. I requested a quick video of the car starting from cold seeing as it would be a bit of hassle and expense for me to travel over just to find that the bugger could potentially smoke from cold but that was too much hassle; do you fellow Jap fans reckon that BEAMS engine is tough enough, approaching 100k miles, to not exhibit such an issue? I'm just loath to take a risk that could be rather time and money consuming, unless someone near Wakefield fancies checking her out for me!

3SGE's are pretty damn tough - certainly the earlier ones as found in the MR2 and Gen5/Gen6 Celica tend to outlive the car they are fitted to.

The issue will always be has it been serviced correctly, and how did the previous owners drive it? One problem with such a revvy engine is you need to get it up to the high end of the rev range to extract the power - great fun when everything is up to temperature - a less sympathetic driver will have given it some abuse when it wasn't warm yet.

Unfortunately I've not got the foggiest option about it other than seeing photos from the classified advert here! Is it not a bit suspicious that a seller wouldn't entertain a potential profit by making a short video for someone considering flying over to buy?
