Hi all. Just after some thoughts on the 370z. Hopefully some owners and previous owners are around.

Going to look at one tomorrow. Really want an Elise but trying to find one (in budget) is like hens teeth.

So a yellow edition 370z caught my eye. Seems ridiculously good value especially with the spec you get on the yellow edition. Owner is bringing it to my house tomorrow for me to have a look over it.

Car history is hot hatches so this is a change in direction for me.

I've got a 370z which I've been driving the past 2.5 years. Great car. Doesn't hold much in common with an Elise (ie the Elise is a raw, featherweight sports car, the z is a great handling, brutish modern jap muscle car).
Great car. Drives superb, handles great, performance is great also (very similar to M135i although with the Z you get a NA 6 cylinder 328bhp engine, LSD, jap reliability, bespoke styling bla bla bla). They have also held onto their value respectably even though dealers haven't shifted as many as hoped.

Wherever I drive I get comments. I've only seen a handful of others on the road.
Motorway journeys you'll get decent Economy (30-40mpg). On enthusiastic driving runs you'll be in the teens.

I went from hot hatches to an S2000 to the Z. Going from hot hatches as you say I think you'll find it more special driving the Z as it's not (like a hot hatch is) a standard version of a car with fast engine in. I did when I shifted to the S2/370z.

Thanks for the reply.

I was just worried there doesn't seem to be many of these around. I.e are they rubbish!

Rarity is a good thing sometimes and thats what im looking for to fend of depreciation. Hence the Elise being on my list.

I shall see today I suppose. They certainly look the part and tick all the right boxes performance wise.

One thing I will have to get my head around is the size. They look fat.

I am going to look at an Elise some distance away next week so decision will be made then.

Great fun this car hunting.

If you search for reviews ie EVO mag, Top Gear mag, Car mag etc you won't find a single bad review.

As for fat, compared to an Elise - absolutely. Compared to an M3 no. Compared to an older 350 it's been on a light diet.
If your hankering for an Elise then the 370 won't be what your after I don't think. If your after a great looking, reliable, good handling performance car (probably the last of the NA V6 6 cylinder engines) the 370 is a good choice.

Just back from a spin in it. Quite well looked after. Usual wear and tear. Couldn't really give it beans due to the roads. Felt solid on all road surfaces. It did feel big compared to my focus Rs but guess thats down to the driving position.

A bit of vibration on the gear stick. Normal?

Things I like. Looks great. Alloys are superb. Surprisingly torquey. Plenty of toys. Comfortable cruising.

Things im not sure on. Road tax is expensive. No real sports car noise induction or exhaust. Granted it was somebody's car so didnt want to boot it.

Elise viewing next week so that should hopefully make my mind up.

If anything like a 350, then totally normal. Evo nicknamed the 350 they had in ECOTY the "Ginger Tingler" for that very reason.

I've only driven a 370Z twice, but have had a 350 for 4.5 years now and a number of the thoughts/opinions/info is fairly transferable.

The noise issue is fairly easily overcome. The standard noise on the 370Z engine is sadly lack luster, especially when the 350 is so good. However there are a large number of high quality exhausts and intakes available now, from slightly fruit to full on 'in yer face' sounds. Those I know who have modified the 370Z exhaust/filter said it solved their noise concerns. Most noise comes in at ~4k revs too, so that might have had something to do with it too.

RFL at near enough £500 a year does sting, but it is only £41 a month (man maths!) and for the grin I still get everytime (genuinely) I drive my Z, I can justify it. Same goes for the fuel. Insurance however is very reasonable, especially given the type of car.

Best thing I can suggest is have a visit to www.350z-uk.com (it is a dual 350/370 site) and have a read/ask some questions on there. A really friendly and knowledgeable bunch, with a great 'real life' community too, if you are interested in meets.

Compared to the Elise, it really is a completely different sort of car. The old man has an S1 Elise which I have driven a bit and it is a fantastic car, but I couldn't live with it everyday. The Z hasn't been off the road once in 4.5 years and has done a number of lengthy journeys in supreme comfort.

It might come down to what you want the car for, as supposed to the cars themselves.

Hope that helps rather than confuses!

Oh yea and on the gearstick vibration, completely normal laugh 350 is worse than the 370 for it but not an issue!

I've genuinely not noticed excessive vibration through the gear stick. I am used to using the rev range too as I've come from a history of fast Hondas.

I don't think the 370z lack sound compared to 350z. It's an internet thing that goes round most likely because the 370 has slightly more sound deadening.
Inside the cabin, maybe so, outside, no way. Loads of videos on YouTube so take your pick.

Road tax. Well, yep it's st, but if you want a newish 3.7 litre NA V6 cylinder engine with 328bhp on a responsive (non turbo) throttle then you pays your money.

Horses for courses I guess. I'm probably a bit biased by the 350 ownership, but I try to look (listen?!) at it as fairly as possible. My opinion is formed from my own ears rather than the internet, but I just didn't find the 370 sounded as good when I drove it, windows down or up.

Re the sound thing. Im comparing it to my last car (mk2 focus Rs) which sounded brilliant in the cabin. Also I have never heard the internet thing so this is totally unbiased. Like I said lovely machine inside and out. Hard to judge it fully in a 45 minute test drive on slippery roads.

I bought a MY10 40th Anniversary back in July and the last 4-5 months ownership have been fantastic. I've got a fairly balanced opinion of it over the time I've had it, having come from a speight of E46s.

Noise-wise, I do find it a little disappointing whilst driving to the low rev-range; however, having had my girlfriend do a flyby video one evening, the external noise is definitely more prominent than it seems. As others have said, gearstick vibration isn't uncommon although I don't get a great deal through mine.

Power on tap is delicious. It has a hell of a lot of grunt across the rev-range and will continue to instantly pull in 6th if you want it to. Tax - well yes, it's high, but absolutely worth it in my opinion. I've yet to have mine serviced, but as I bought mine through Nissan, I have 2 years' free servicing, so can't provide any details on rough costs etc.

As others have said, they're something of a rare sight on the roads and since owning one, I've only seen half a dozen at most. I enjoy the fact that most people don't really know what it is and actuall take some pleasure from explaining that it's a Nissan, purely for the reaction it brings.

My only complaint since buying mine was whatever the previous owner has managed to do to the clutch and/or gearbox. First and second are by no means smooth changes, but I think I may be looking at a better clutch in the coming months.

The most exciting car I've owned so far, with every extra I would spec myself. A wonderful engine, a pretty raw and engaging driving experience (when you want it) and all wrapped in Japanese reliability.

I can only talk for the 350z but depreciation hit that quite hard over the last few years I think so I'd look into that aspect or at least give it a glance.

In the 350 they also tend to get scratched quite badly internally down and around the window switches. The paint/veneer was so thin that the area around these switches on both sides had been scratched and the bare metal was showing. It really is wafer thin and you should ask your other half to be careful if she has long nails.

Every car loses money but 350z have generally held their value better than M3s or other German equivalents if you search like for like, year for year, mileage for mileage and consider the difference they cost when new.
