I can only assume from the lack of replies that there is very little interest in these motors

Not all all. I love old toyotas!

Unfortunately many of the uk cars are long gone, either rusted away or sat in a garage doing the same. hehe

If its a true ta22 then yes a decent rot free one will cost about 10grand. The cars are so rare in the uk that there isn't much of a market, so it boils down to what you are prepared to pay. I've seen less than 10 go up for sale on car and classic over the past 3 or 4 years. You either get a rusty shed for 2-5k or a decent one for about 8-10. Obviously you can't tell how much they actually sell for, but a cheeky offer might get you one if the owner has been sitting on it for a while.

That model came in quite a few flavours with the mustang style fast back being slightly more common I have found.

On the later models they moved the mirrors to the doors and then changed the lights and ruined them.

Outside of the uk they are far more common.

That later model (ta28) has has a v8 from a lexus rather than the original 4 cylinder engine.

There are still a few of them kicking around within the Celica Club UK. Decent Bodywork is very hard to get hold of and as has been said above, many UK cars had just crumbled away to rust before an enthusiast got hold of them.
They are becoming a classic and a decent Gen 1 Celica can and does, when up for sale, get into 5 figure sums for a decent one.
