Wtf has happened to Mitsubishi and Subaru?! Is there nothing in the pipeline from the Old Guard?

Their engines were too thirsty and had poor c02 ratings when compared to the new german offerings.

People also want soft touch leather and the market for a rally rep is tiny these days.

Mitsi lost the plot years ago didn't they?

Subaru are still making fast things and have a new WRX on the way as well.

OMG !

Mitsi and Scooby still make the cars, its just the exchange rate and the emissions restrictions that made them uneconomical to bring to the UK. Blame the government.

Dont even get me started on the RFL (rape-tax) ive seen some cars costing over £1000 in the first year because of showroom tax. And yet a crappy eurobox that gets replaced every 12 months and costs 4x as much to produce 4 cars over a few year period is seen as the green option !

If you want decent performance these days, modification is the way. I love the AMG A45 but I need to push it up over 450hp to get anywhere near my evo and the reviews all state it doesnt handle with the chassis control of a rally rep.

The performance of the new A45 AMG is impressive, but give me a rattly, plasticky old Impreza or Lancer Evolution any day. Sadly given the price blow up hitting Subaru, and Mistubishi giving up on performance cars altogether, it seems that buying used is the only way to go.

I'd rather drive something with a bit of soul and heritage than some leather-clad German offering, even if the out-of-the-box perfomrance of the A45 is mighty.

Completely agree, I had a nose around the new A45 AMG and its a nice looking motor. I just find the German offerings a little soulless. Dont get me wrong a C63 AMG Black is an awesome motor, but i find them just a bit cold, a bit too...... german.

Never driven one but they certainly sound great, loud clap on gear changes, over-run burble etc.

My bro somehow managed to borrow one for a day and said it was great but the chassis/handling was not up to the same standard as the drivetrain - maybe FWD biased 4WD to blame?

£40k with no options is a lot of money. Think of the 5 year old alternatives available at that price.

There was a post on an oz website a while back that hinted the next mazda 3 mps could be awd as the 3 shares it's underpinnings with the cx-5. Marry that with 300bhp+.....could be interesting!

I was seriously interested in these but, while the A45 is certainly fast, the handling is rather inert. Lots of grip, just not much fun. The gearbox also has a mind of its iwn in any mode. I thought the Evo's SST was recalcitrant but the Merc box is quite rubbish! All in all, it was a bit disappointing. For the Evo X's flaws, it's a far better steer.

Stick with Jap. It doesn't have to be used either - http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/Toyota/BRZ-GT86...

I recently bought an M135i but will be keeping a close eye on developments with Subaru and Mitsubishi bringing their rally offerings back to the UK. I also like the look of the 2015 Type R.
