Been toying with the idea of replacing my E30 320i with a S13 200SX for a while now but got offered a Supra Turbo last night, it’s a well looked after car, recently had tyres, brakes and service, it seems a good buy, although it’s not what I was looking for it’s very tempting. How does the supra compare to the 200SX or my 320? I’m going to be using it to run about 20-30 miles a day up and down the A2, I want something that’s reasonable to dive so I can keep the miles off the Griff.

The only down side to the Toyota is it’s an auto, although I’d prefer a manual knowing the history of the car is very appealing.

I'd got for the supra over the S13. S14/15 is a different matter, and is a great car, and maybe a little nice than the older supras, but with your choice, go for supra. What year is the supra? Most years it should wipe the floor with the beemer performance wise, and it will have a retro cool feel to it! If you choose to go for the 200, then try to get an S14 rather than 13, as they are much more comfortable, better looking, and they are quicker too.

The supra is a 1989 black with grey leather, don’t have too much to spend but fancy a change, never had a turbo car before so fancied one. I've been looking to spend about £1500 but this has come up at half that and is a well looked after car, at that price if it lasts a year I’ll be happy.

Tough choice that, 2 fantastic cars IMO.

Id probably end up going for the Nissan 200SX just because they seem like they'd be good fun plus I'd like to track it.
However, those old Supras seem to go on and on without fault and will be a good solid comfy ride to and from work everyday.

Whats even more fun (although this is of no help to you!) is a combination of both. Get the imported 2.5 twin turbo Supra!

What about an old sylvia turbo? Easily tweaked, and rwd I think? They have an olde world jap charm about them, a bit like the corrolla the drift king uses!!
1.8 turbo... great fun..Only drove one once, but they were great for throwing round corners, with the tail out!

I'd go for the Supra rather than S13 for reasons mentioned...

I’m swaying towards the Supra, think I’ll go have a proper look over it at the weekend.

Check the headgaskets, they have a habit of failing.....

I have seen they are prone to failure so will check it out, if it did fail later on is there any reason a DIYer couldn’t replace it at home?

Very difficult choice-both great cars,in their own right. Are you looking at a Particular200sx to compare directly to?
If it were me,I think I'd lean towards the supra(running costs will prob be a bit higher)but 6 speed, twin turbo, capapble of big power, good cockpit layout & still looks good for its age too-UK spec supras have better bhp, brakes etc spec than Imports.

I think an 1989 will be the previous version. 6 cylinder 3 litre lump with a single turbo.

The auto isn't actually a huge issue, as it's a pretty good box and suits the engine well.

More of a GT than a sports car.....

Yes it’s the mk3 one, 3.0 single turbo, just been doing some searching and they are a very heavy car, still decent spec level as standard.

Mine is a 3.0 Turbo Auto.

One of my mates has an S14 Nissan 200sx and it feels very plasticy and not as nicely finished as the Supra. I would go for the Supra as you have more power, more toys, and a straight six

Head gaskets can be a problem, my car had it done by the previous owner at approx 65k. It is now on 132k.

Very solid cars the Supra, If you look after it I don't think you can wear one out.

I've had both, an S13 200Sx and a Mk3 Supra turbo, chalk and cheese really, the 200 is a much more chuckable car, it feels so light on its feet whereas the Supra just seems to batter everything into submission (they are a big car and very heavy).

Over distance the Supra is very comfortable and relaxing, the 200 less so, both have useless rear seats, Supra will have a lot more toys

Running costs will be similar, the Supra will use more fuel.

Both easy to liberate more power out of, £400 or so will get you 220bhp in the 200 and 270bhp in the Supra, all they need is better exhaust and induction and a boost upgrade, you can fit a saab intercooler to the 200 for peanuts (they suffer badly from boost drop off at high revs due to the crap std intercooler)and see a big improvement, mine held 16psi to the red line.

Given the choice of both again I dunno.

be careful when buying the supra i have two an import and a uk the bottom end tends to go and are very expensive to repair due to bad oil circulation make sure that only synthetic oil has been used and its got no bottom end noise i am now breaking both cars althought i have just bought everything for the uk car to rebuild unable to finish due to accident (not in supras)
