Yes you did that read that right. Considering a cheap bangermatic car and wondering if the later 2001 Primera 16V sport would be much worst than the earlier GT model? This 2001 car I've seen advertised is £695 with 140,000 miles on it. Anyone out there owned one?
you should be fine - I think you need to watch out for chain tensioners, symptoms are occasional missing. (might be wrong about the model)The GT is obviously king, but they fetch a premium and its hard to find one now that hasn't been "boy-raced", modified or looks tired..as the current examples on Ebay attest to.
actually the P11 2.0 SRI looks appealing. Its only 14 BHP down on power (I think), dirt cheap and had a reputation as a handler. I have an old issue of Car from 1996 and it went around Thruxton faster than a GTI-6 on the same day, which is frankly incredible! Thanks for the feedback.

The 144 (facelift) with a 2.0 has the SR20 which is what you want. The QC18 must be the 1.8.
Correct me if I am wrong but I have the Haynes manual and it says the 2.0 144 has the SR20.
Difference between the Sport and the GT?
The ECU and the camshafts. ECU should be a direct swap plug wise, immobiliser could be a problem though but you can pick up the ECU and a full set of keys and ignition barrel for not much.
Chassis wise the 144 is probably identical.
144 seats might not be a supportive as the GTs which is a big factor in enjoying the car. No support = no fun.
I have a GT and I'd get a Sport no problem. Fantastic car. Comfortable, quiet, well built, amazing handling, reliable. Do the usual checks, rust, smoke, electrics. If all is okay I wouldn't worry, they do not tend to go wrong.
