MR2 subframe issue advice

Hi All,

Just had an anguished call from one of my employees. having taken his Mk3 MR2 to Toyota for what was expected to be a service and MOT he has been told it has a big hole in the rear subframe...and to replace will likely be around 2 grand as they may well have to replace 3 other bits at the same time (related chasis components which typically will also have gone)

Ive had a squizz online and this doesn't seem uncommon (bit shoddy for typically reliable japanese car??) - what I cant find is if anyone has any ideas of how this could be repaired or replaced for less cash - cos he only paid about 4k for the entire car!

I said I'd ask on here - any advice very welcome. He's in the Reading area so any specialists around there people would recommend would also be much appreciated
