Isuzu 3.0 to 3.1 conversion????

Hi all.
I have the old fashioned non common rail trooper with the 3.1 engine. The engine is lovely. regular oil changes, an EGR removal, and she's done nearly 220k with no worries.
However, it's coming up to MOT time, and I think it will fail on brakes, suspension, steering, and possibly body rot. Not too much then.
The newer 3.0 common rail is known to be a bag of rubbish - but the advantage of owning a newer vehicle are obvious.
So the million dollar question, can I put my excellent 3.1 into a 3.0 with no massive issues? Anyone done it, can you offer advise.
