Hey piston people,
This is my first post. I have been using piston heads for quite a while, but never yet needed to write anything!
So my question. Basically I am looking at pursching a new car, and it has come down to a choice of either a Cayman R or a Nissan GT-R. I understand these are VERY different cars, and have come to the decision for a number of different reasons.
Firstly, I race MX-5's, and track both an MX-5 and a RS 172 Cup up and down the country (as well as Spa and the Ring). So essentially I am very much used to back to basic cars with limited electronics. That is what makes something over the top like the Nissan GT-R, a computer on wheels so fantastically appealing. I like the fact that it is gimicky in the sense that there is a ridiculous amount of information on display in the centre console, but I love the fact it is generally just a beast.
The next car is a Cayman R. I have a test drive booked with this in a few weeks (when I can get time off work!). I do love Porsche in general, and it helps with my dad having a 993 Turbo which is just fantastic a fantastic drive. The Cayman R is always mentioned as having the 'Porsche Experiance'. I know it is not a 911, but to me it really doesn't matter. A badge is a badge, but for me the drive is what puts the smile on my face, and that is what I find important. From everyone I know that has driven a Cayman R, they say it is just amazing. I have even heard of a few people with 911's dropping them in for the Cayman R which honestly sounds ridiculous, but with my dad having driven one while his car was being serviced, he said he could understand why.
My actual question though; does anyone with a Nissan GT-R who may have a bit of time free at some weekend or weekday that would be willing to take me out for a test drive. The issue I have found with this car is simply getting into one. I missed a fantastic opportunity at Snetterton at the weekend, and with no track day booked for another month, do not want to risk not seeing one there. I have spoken to a number of dealers and the feedback is basically you will get a 10 minute test drive with a member of the sales team. I know that essentially in those 10 minutes I won't get to see 10% of what this amazing car potentially offers, and I do not want to sink 60k into a car that I personally find out I do not like. Nor do I want to book a test drive with someone selling the car privately as I just do not feel it would be fair to waste their time (as I am sure many people have done, and considering I will not likely be buying till a bit further into the winter). Ultimately, I would like to drive the car my self, but would rather do so without, in a sense, 'using' someone to do so.
I am based in Medway, Kent, and hope to hear from someone soon!

If you have a look on the gtr.co.uk forum there will be many gtr owners in your area who im sure would be willing to take uou for a spin. Also there was a lengthy thread on there recently discussing a cayman s and gtr so you might find a few answers there.
Not many gtr owners come on here to be honest.

I've looked into booking it, but they seem very funny who they are willing to loan the car too. As a 24 year old, I really don't seem to be taken seriously (which I can't blame them to be honest). Same goes with independent dealers, but they don't want their 2nd hand cars ragged to pieces by every bloke that fancies a go in one. One dealer said outright that he would let me test drive it if I bought it. It was funny and all, but if I'm going to sink up to 60k into a car, I want to know what I'm getting!
