Hi all,

Bit of a technical first post... I have had a turbocharger from a Lancer Evolution 5 in my shed for about 2 years, the car's long gone so I want to sell it but don't want to rip anybody off. Question is as the post's title, are there any rubber seals or o-rings that may have perished inside the turbocharger? I'm sure the bearings are oil fed, could there be any corrosion inside where oil has flowed away over time? I also have a feeling this turbocharger is water cooled?

Cheers

No rubber parts in a turbocharger to my knowledge due to the heat generated. It might have dried up inside, but as long as the spindle turns then it should be fine, just remember to tell the purchaser it might be worthwhile putting some oil into the feed gallery and spinning it by hand before putting it on.

I've got numerous units kicking around, plus one still on my other A176 lancer EX, it's been sat for a while but still spins by hand so it's ok as far as I'm concerned.

As long as the unit is kept dry, away from water and the compressor blades not damaged by anything poking into them during it's storage, then they'll be ok for years.

The outer jacket (housing) is water cooled iirc, there should be two holes each side of the housing (adjacent to the oil feed) for the connections, nothing to deteriorate in there, it's literally just a water passage.
