Hi All i am new to this so hope this is in the correct forum!

My boyfriend bought a RX8 on Monday and today he had to be towed home by the AA!
He was sitting in neutral whilst at traffic lights and he pressed the clutch down to place into gear and the car stalled for no reason. After that it would not start for a couple of hours (hence him being towed home)
Tried to go out just now the car started fine (idle was a little rough) but as soon as he pushed the clutch down the car went juddery as if it was to stall again! There was also a strong petrol smell in the cabin

If it matters the car is 2004 RX8 231 with 49k and full mazda service history. The clutch was also replaced less than 500 miles ago approx 4 months

We have had a look through the paperwork and cannot find any record of the coils being changed - could this be the issue??

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Agreed, try the RX8 forum. What i do know is the RX8 is well known to be pretty unreliable, i think they suffer from rotor tip problems, maybe this could be your problem?

You could do worse than giving RoTechniks in Grazeley near reading a call.
Never used them but they seem like pretty genuine guys and I've heard some good reports.

sounds like could have a misfire from iffy coils and not throwing engine lamp on... ignition coils/plugs/leads should be considered service items (ideally every 2 years/20,000 miles).. would strongly advise inspecting the insides of the cat too, any damage-replace it! Blocked/damaged cat and heading for mega exhaust overheating and melting stuff inside the car and/or a fire!
Not uncommon for a RX8 to have a misfire and not be detected unless you really know the car...
