I wonder if any of the resident Mazda experts could help me.

I recently took my Feb 2011 registered Mazda5 2.0 Sport (petrol) in for it's 37.5Kmile/3year service. The car has done 38000 relatively fault free miles and the service department advised me that the front brake pads were 80% worn. The price quoted to replace them is £141.61. This seems a little steep for a simple pad change although I appreciate that the dealer has to make a living.

I note that the front calipers are stamped with FoMoCo so wonder if anyone knows what equivalent Ford uses the same brakes (and hence pads). I'd be keen to get a few quotes for supply of genuine (Motorcraft?) parts by way of comparison. That way I could consider changing them myself or get my friendly local indy to do the job ....without the hassle of trying to make pattern parts fit etc.

Thanks hugely in advance.

being 45 years old and suffering from middle aged spread / laziness i nearly took my daily runabout hyundri coupe to the dealer for a front pad change .
£125 they wanted !

then i thought WTF am i doing ?
i cancelled the appointment and paid £25 at the local motor factor for the pads and did it myself .
i even found a 20 year old tube of coppa grease to stop the pads skweeling while i was rummaging round the garage looking for my tools .

just ring up a few motor factors in your area and go with the best quote
you'll be quids in

Hi Cosmo

Thanks for bringing me to my senses! smile I've found that the Mazda5 shares the same Pagid pads part number as a Focus 2.0 so at £37 that's good enough for me.

I'm a little longer in the tooth than yourself but it looks like I'll be breaking out the Coppaslip after all.
Thanks again.

be better off with Mintex Ceratec or similar, something more 'inert'.. bit of wayward copperslip can make abs sensors misbehave!!

Brembo's are available on eBay for £30 with delivery. Buy them and get your local grease shop to fit them. You will probably be all done for less that £70
