i'm after some cheap(ish) fun for next summer.

top of the list is an S13 200SX. are there any tales of horror i should be aware of? many mechanical changes between '89 and 94?

any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

www.sxoc.com

Later cars look different, some have an LSD, few other bits and bobs. Beware of big ends.

I've been posting loads on sxoc recently.

Best advice given to me was:

Either pay more and import a later one (in Japan, later models came with the SR20DET lump).

Or buy a shitter for £500, spend £500 on welding up the rusty bits and take it from there.

Big ends apparently go between 80 and 120k miles without fail, so listen out for weird noises coming from the engine.

oil bleed pipe from turbo was changed in about 92, with a bigger ID.
Exhaust manifold gaskets can leak, i used to retighten them every month(not a hard job) eventually i double nutted them!!
Standard ECU will cope with some bleed induced in to the actuator but too much and it will hole a piston (like any other i suppose)

Rear subframe forward mounting bushes can delaminate and make a banging from the rear - on a test drive dont confuse it with a touching exhaust.
The subframe bushes were not an item that could be purchased seperate.i found a supplier called Silvia Engineering that did an exchange subframe for 800 quid, but that was a few years ago.
Hope it helps, but they are a fantastic car for the money.
