Anyone have any information on the Toyota Paseo?

I grabbed a 1996 one for just a couple of hundred, need a cheap car to insure so I can build NCB. It belongs to someone I know so I have seen it for quite a while, but I always assumed it was an import, but the V5 etc. shows it's a UK car. Don't think I've ever seen one on the road

Can anyone confirm if they are based on the Starlet and if they are easy to work on? I haven't had a chance to drive it yet because im not sure if it's worth fixing up (needs new brakes and tyres). If anyone's driven one I wouldn't mind knowing If they are an okay run-around

Hi,

I had one as my first car absolutely brilliant it was!

It is based on the starlet so brakes, suspension etc is mostly the same.

The engine was called a 5efe whereas the Starlet was a 4efe but I think it was just the bottom end that changed (rods and crank I think) pistons etc were I think the same...

There was two main models the SI and ST the ST being the lower spec without a spoiler and wheels but I believe that was the only difference there!

There was a model called a Galliano in yellow which had a rather funky full bodykit! The bodykits
use to make a fortune!

Wheels are standard 4x100 size,

Mine was easy to maintain, a brilliant thing to drive and looked the business for a first car imo!

I believe they are called a 'Cynos' in Japan/Europe?

hope this helps!

Your post was seriously helpful, because googling Cynos provided loads more information than Paseo. I looked up the engine as well, switched to coil pack from distributor in 1995!! The Honda im driving at the moment is still on a distro and is a 2000 model

Seems like a pretty good motor then and I guess there are not too many around so I might invest in getting it in good shape. It's the top spec model with the alloys/spoiler

hi, my son has had two.
one thing to watch for is the petrol tank prone is to leak on the seams (rust) and also the filler pipe.
The first one we bought from a dubious dealer had painted it, the fist time my son filled it up it was leaking all over the exhaust.yikes
Quick car, baby celica...

Nice looking cars, I always thought.

What about a Toyota Sera? They were always quite funky. A runaround with delusions of grandeur! hehe
