I saw the new Mazda 6 for the first time yesterday, waiting to board the Eurotunnel. I have to say, it is pretty stunning in the flesh.

I'm normally up to speed with new models etc. but I genuinely didn't know what this one was so I asked the bloke driving it. Needless to say I was very surprised when I found out what it was (he had taken the model badge off).

The exterior has strong hints of Jaguar. The front reminds me of the XJ and the overall silhouette and stance has hints of XF, though it is in some ways - and I know I'm going to hell for saying this - better looking than either. The design works well from all angles. It looks more exciting than the Mondeo/Insignia/3-series and classier than the i40.

The interior is not the greatest - the sat nav screen in particular looks small and rather "aftermarket" - but I am sure it all works and I presume that they continue the Japanese tradition of throwing loads of kit into the standard car rather than ratcheting up the price with options.

So, I'm tempted. Anyone got one?

It is I guess, saloon boots are, in some countries at least, consider to be more up market than a hatch. But the least they could was make it RWD as well. hehe

MPS might come a few years down the line to revitalise flagging sales (I hope)

i remember when a mid size Jap saloon was the norm in UK- but after the Primera P11 they became rarer.
I think only mid size Jap saloon available now also is Honda Accord(and that will not be replaced in uk)

Yes smile
Avensis in previous shape had good mix of hatches and saloons
Sixth generation Accord also managed this

I work in a Mazda Agent in Chichester, So far Mazda have not released any details of the MPS range returning. As mentioned this is a bit of a sad fact because they were brilliant cars.

When ever we buy one in take it in P/X always sell very quickly.

Mazda Mps and Subaru Legacy seem to be last of dying breed of mid sized sporting Jap saloons

SWMBO got the new 6 2.2 175bhp diesel sport SE (think that's right)for her new company car and have to say a real stunner to look and interior is very good as well. Looking forward to having a drive.
