I am intersted in one of these as my next car, currently own a Civic Type S and fancy something a bit bigger with a bit of poke.

I know the diesel has the DPF issues, but is it enough to put you off buying one as long as its been services well?

What's the opinion on the 2.5 petrol? I cover about 10k miles a year, 30 mile round trip to work so a bit concerned on if the mpg is to poor. And likewise would I cover enough to warrant a diesel.

Any opinions would be great!

2.2 diesels have significantly less DPF problems than the old 2 litre,
I've bought a 2.2 a few months back after looking at all sorts of cars.
Just get one with full service history

You can phone Mazda dealers with a reg number and they can tell you history over the phone.
I went into my local dealer with a couple of boxes of mince pies as it was about Christmas time, This kept them sweet and they were very helpful whenever I rang them.

ANY car you google will show loads of problems as you probably know. You'd never buy anything.
Mazda you get a lot of car for the money, I also looked at Accords, again according to the internet they're rubbish!!!!
If you want anymore info from someone who spent about 6 months looking for one, owns one and has run it for about 5 months let me know.
P.S I've owned freelanders with out any problems too smile
Andy

Ignore anything you read about the 2.0 diesel DPF problems if you're looking at the 2.2 - the DPF system is completely different to the older 2.0 cars, and very reliable.

2.2 diesel a very good car, as already mentioned, speak to a dealer with the reg number and see if all the recalls and nasty stuff been done. Some cranks/timing gears can 'tinkle' at idle, needs new crank (but service bulletin/warranty for this), boot buttons can crack letting water in, and a few have iffy o2 sensors (again bulletin, requires careful calibration drive afterwards!) I'd have a 2.2D all day long, and I'm a ex-Mazda tech...!!!
