Right people well its been a long month, I have run into many problems along the way and still no where near the finish, When I took the engine out I decided to do it all properly and repaint the engine bay but as soon as I started taking parts off I noticed the whole front end had been replaced poorly and basically they had replaced it then by the looks of it put it on wrong and bent everything to get the lights, bumber, bonnet to fit, Ive come to the conclusion that it has had a minor tap or someone has dropped the engine on the slam panel when they where changing it last time, So I was not happy , I originally bought the car and paid a lot of money for it as the shell was supposed to be perlin but it has turned out the opposite, Anyway I will not be defeated lol, I was going to re do it all but the car is a keeper (I hope) so I thought I might as well by new and do it right. Anyway Dave at Ears motorsport got me a genuine front end (Thanks Dave) Which was a perfect fit ( I measured everything best I could regarding the chassis legs to make sure everything was straight before I spent any more money on it, But I suppose I wont really no until I get in on the road and get it on 4 wheel alignment. Here is the front end which was twisted due to some numpty putting bent stuff back on the carconfused

Got the new front end on all welded up, I built the car right back up to make sure everything fitted ok and tacked it on, Then stripped the car back down and welded it on properly, Grinded it back wacked on some paint to stop it going rusty until I get it done properly

This week ive been doing lots of sanding lol my arms are killing.

The front of the cari now ready to be sprayed properly, I have a pro lol coming in to do it me as I don't have the equipment to do it right. which should be happening on Saturday (27th)

Today im not at work so thought I would make a start on other bits. Im fitting AN fitting to my rocker cover so ive made a start with that, I have nocked the studs of and filled them flat so I can get them tapped along with the an fittings, Then when that done it will be off to be blasted and powder coated, One question though, The pcv valve will be staying as it is and my original plan was to fit one -10an fitting in the side but ive noticed people have had 2 fitted in the side, Why im doing it it it worth havin two -10 an fittings fitted.

That's one baffle done just got the other to do

That white front end it looking great.

But can I ask....spraying the intercooler black, will that not make it attract the sun and heat up on sunny days, thus robbing you of power ?

Im not critisizing, im just thinking about doing something "logo" wise to mine at the moment and it struck me as a possible issue.

It doesn't make an atom of difference what colour the intercooler is, it'll still work as well as the design will allow.

Can you expand on that for me. My old head still thinks it will get hotter in the sun and the pressurised intake air will pass thru a warmer intercooler rather than a cooler one. Otherwise why would you spray water on to it in order to cool the intercooler ?

My comment was solely in regard to your query about spraying the intercooler.........over the years, I've sprayed more intercoolers than I can be bothered to count on Evos and, probably more critically, on Imprezas with top mounts. I monitor intake temps with a scangauge plugged into the OBD port working from the IAT sensor in the inlet manifold on my current car, backed up by a k-type thermocouple in the hose on the throttlebody wired to a digital dispaly readout in the car.

I've used the thermocouple on everything I've owned where applicable for about 10 years on numerous different intercooler setups, so I'm happy to stand by my comment that the colour is irrelevant. If it wasn't, I'd have the information, and I would act accordingly.

Suppliers of high end intercoolers such as ETS are happy to supply their products in black if requested, if they're happy to do it, so am I.

Huge amount of dross posted up about intercoolers on forums, lost count of the number of people advocating an IC as being " excellent' and giving " no problems ", and then it becomes apparent they have no real idea, because they've never monitored the temps!

No probs, it's an interesting ( if geeky ) mini-obsession!

I played around with logging and monitoring intake temps on my Evo 6 , it seemed to me heatsoak from the engine due to the under bonnet temps have far more impact than the intercooler

At least with a front mount, when you start moving the temps tend to descend quickly, the top mounts tend to need noticeably longer due to their location........there are aftermarket front mounts that perform significantly worse than the standard item on an Evo, it's a very good intercooler up to about 450 brake.
