Would anyone be able to help? I have a 1991 Galant 2.0 GTI which has some damage to the ECU. Can anyone recommend a good ECU Repairer, possibly specialising in older Japanese vehicles. I have tried to send my ECU to a company called the ECU Doctor but they were not able to repair it.
The alternative is to replace the ECU. Unfortunately its near enough impossible to locate the exact one. The part is MD166253, the nearest I have found being MD166250 on ebay in the US. I am told this however is not suitable since it does away with the turbo. Does anyone know the code of one that would work assuming I still cannot find the exact part.
At the moment my preference is to repair the existing unit.
Many thanks

Not sure it will be much help but try geekmappers.com , there are a few people on there that know a lot about Mitsi ECU's

Hi
Speak to Kevin at Brighton mitsubishi on 01273 388808 . He's pretty much the man to get hold of any hard to find stuff the normal run of the mill dealer can't be bothered to look for. As an example, my local Mitsi told me that screens for the 80's Lancer turbo were no longer available, one phone call to Kevin later and I'd managed to order 2 from Mitsubishi Japan. He might also be able to suggest an alternative (one shared with another vehicle. Very often Hyundai and Proton parts are interchangeable on the older stuff).

Failing that, perhaps a post on the MLR might help. Although it's primarily for Evo Lancer owners, they're a pretty good bunch and help out as much as they can. There's also quite a few foreign members (Malaysia, Philippines, Australia) who again, might be able to help out by perhaps sourcing you a SH one if yours cannot be fixed.
Another long shot is Dave Green at Henstead motorsport in Beccles, Suffolk. He is more modern jap stuff but cut his teeth on early Lancer turbo's, Starions and Galants.
FWIW I know that the ECU on the mid / Early 80's Galants / Starions / Lancers /Sapporo Turbo's were the same (or very similar) PCB, differences being in the very basic mapping they had due to slightly different emissions (they all shared the same 4G63B engine, albeit with subtle differences). This doesn't help your cause because your car is a bit later, but it might be worth checking if it's at all similar to the NA Lancers of the early 90's, pre Evo.

Best of luck mate.

Cheers
Pete

OP - how did you get on?

Give Ben or Mark a call at Eurospec200 in guilford - 01483 234 879

they do a good amount of work with Galants so might be able to help you out.

Dave.

Thanks. I got in touch with chap at Mitsubishi Brighton who quoted around £600 for the ECU since its a unique part. He then recomended an ECU repairer, who solved a similar problem on a similar car some years back, so it will be sent to them tomorrow and I hope to update the thread later on.

There was a guy on Coltuk who broke one aboutv4 years back to use the engine for something.

I don't think he ever did it, so might be inclined to sell.

That Gti engine is a non turbo version of the EVO lump as fitted to evo123!. It's possible to remap the later 5-9 EVO to fit the earlys, by swapping he pin outs to the plugs. That might offer other possibilities.

Thanks for asking and sorry in the delay in replying. Autotek Electronics in Bournemouth were able to sort it out for £300 (repaired ECU).
