Mrs T gets excited at car auction
Discussion
Mrs T. & I have been considering a run-about,to take some of the:strain/kids/shopping/winter miles(we live in the sticks)off the R33.The main idea was a low allround budget, banger. We'd considered things like VW polo's,pug 1/206,fiesta's-even an astra or chav chariot that type of thing.
Went to local-ish(Bristol)weekly car auction JUST TO LOOK SEE.Its fairly interesting,I'm keeping my hands firmly in my pockets & wearing what will hopefully pass as a poker face,-so that no one thinks I'm bidding.Go for a pee(should of held on)when I get back Mrs T is dancing around, looking happy & worriedheart stopping moment.'I've bought a car,can I have some ca$h please'was heard in slo-motion type effect. She is impulsive,I didnt realise quite how muchTalk about surprised!Wow the plethora of feelings I had as she proudly led me towards the 'greenlump'.Its only £200.00,Its not the end of the world.
We/she/I now own a 1996 Hyundai Accent GSI(group8 insurance).-with all necessary paperwork.A few dings, but certainly not tatty or a banger.
Gave it a good thrashing on the way home. Its quite a nippy little thing actually, firmly sprung-likes to go.Engine is pretty much a Honda-like 12 valve 1500cc,all indications are the engine/brakes/chassis are in pretty sound nick. There are a few cosmetic/interior things type'weekend jobs' to do.
I dont know anything about these cars so any info gratefully received.
So-good one Mrs T.I'm quite pleased really I am.

I had one (well a string) of these as a company car when I worked in Oz for a year in 95/96. There they are known as the Excel.
I didn't look under the bonnet but it seemed to go OK. the trim fell off very easly and the doors dented if you looked at them. I only once broke down but this was in the middle of the desert and it took the recovery bloke a full 5 days to recover back to Perth I don't know what the fault was but it was electical - turned the key and ..... nothing.

For a couple of hundred badgers, it can't be bad
I'm looking for something sort of similar. Cheap, crap, disposable...
Try the lucky dip at auction-better still send your 'other half' for you
have been rifling thru the papers/mot certs etc,I think I might get a few years out of this-its at 70kmiles,looked after in first 6 yrs history, only did 3k miles last year.
Seems it may be known as Hyundai Pony in other parts.
