mx-5 metal thing

on teh back of some mx-5s there is a large metal thing. it could be an odd spoiler, but i think it's more likely to be a luggage rack although if it is i've never seen one being used.

Any thoughts?

You can definately get luggage racks for them, a mate of mine toured the alps with his missus with one last summer. (The car had the rack, not his missus. Mind you...)

It is a rack, but it is not very strong, infact its quite pointless, you are better off getting a proper aftermarket one.
