Legacy oil leak/blowing
Discussion
I'm stratching my head on this problem, my car hates having the oil level topped up, whenever I do so the oil blows out /leaks from somewhere underneath the engine and drips on the exhausts which then billows smoke from under the bonnet
It seems to happen until the oil level reaches the lower mark on the dipstick, after which the car runs faultlessly, and uses very little oil.
I've had a good crawl around under the car but can't find out where the oil comes from??
Anyone had a similar problem, and if so how did you cure it?
Another possibility is that I have the wrong dipstick - is this possible with scooby engines?
The engine is a N/A 2 litre ej20

Hi have a look at this link, it also could be leaking from the crank seal.
I did not change mine just cleaned it out with carb cleaner, sorted.

Done 115k miles, PCV wasn't really that dirty, though when you 'Rattled it ' back and forth it didn't really rattle! After cleaning it rattles like a good 'un
I looked in the cleaning fluid [after cleaning] it was dirty brown with plenty of solid bits at the bottom. I used a kids small paint brush to clean the PCV insides with plenty of blasts of compressed air to help clear the s
te. Surpising really Subaru don't mention the PCV within the service schedule [at least they don't in my workshop manual], it's small enough to warrant a change every 50K miles or so, to prevent similar problems.
Many thanks for your help resolving this.

I cant see any oil leaking from the cambelt covers, an american mate suggested my problem could be oil leaking from the cam seals, having been told this I specifically looked in this area for the leak.
One positive though if the cam belt does break, I understand its a 'no contact engine' ie valves dont hit pistons if the belt snaps, not certain that this is the case, however if the belt does snap I'll change it immediately, coz I carry a spare cambelt in the car, seem simple enough compared to some others I've changed
