Suzuki swift sport

I'm currently in the Market for a new car and the above have caught my eye.
I have a budget of £7k and drive roughly 12,000 miles a year. I regularly drive 150 miles from newcastle to Manchester.
Does anybody have a swift, and how do you find it on the motorway? Reasonable mpg?? I've heard it does not have a 6 speed gearbox so may be quite tiring ?
Trying to get a test drive this weekend as I've seen a few for sale around £5.5k.
Others cars I'm looking at are the Honda civic 1.8. I've seen an ex model in my budget with all the toys but I'm thinking with my mileage I may be better off with the 2.2 cdti. This means I would probably have to sacrifice spec and a higher mileage car in order to purchase one.
Any other recommendations on cars would be welcome. I currently drive a vw bora tdi 150 bhp. Car is on a 52 plate and starting to feel it's ages now.
