I have an acceptably long brake travel on our 06 wrx. Currently on 28K so assumed it needed new pads. It isn't soft as in air in the system just seems to be a long travel until it bites. Braking efficiency is fine when it does.

Took it apart today and pads are barely 50% worn if that and the front disc surface is fine but the rear disc surface is very badly scored and the pad that side reflects this. Drivers side is worse than the passenger side.

So have we just been unlucky and had something in there or is it reflect the driving (my wife's car so I can ask that with impunity!)

Rear fornt disc surface is fine but I can't get to the rear surface so easily.
I figured if I have to replace the front discs I may as well do the rear anyway.

Or is there some adjustment in the pedal?

Sounds like a stone/something has got between the pad and disk to cause the scoring. Check the shims are fitted properly and the screws arn't loose (may not apply to your calliper).

Long pedal travel- i would bleed the brakes and refill and see if it clears.
