450bhp Evo

FFQ Evo to debut at Castle Combe next week


Owen Developments from Oxfordshire, who are responsible for developing and manufacturing the FQ power upgrades for Lancer Evolutions for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, are to debut their 450 bhp – 400 lb.ft. Lancer Evo upgrade on Tuesday at Castle Combe.

Brian Owen, Managing Director said, "We are using the BookaTrack event at Castle Combe to show visitors our latest developments. The power upgrade for the Lancer will initially be available for Evo 4 to 7 models although we will be demonstrating this latest development in our own Evo 8 development car. We expect prices to start in the region of £2,160 for the basic turbo kit but it will depend very much upon the current state of tune and how sound the engine and clutch are already. Either myself or Mark Harrison our Performance Centre Manager will talk to each potential customer about their car before we can give them an expected final cost. Depending upon demand, we will endeavour to do the conversion work at our Kingston Bagpuize headquarters but we have several specialist companies around the UK who can undertake this work ".

Owen Developments, founded in 1980, provide a number of major manufacturers with engineering and power upgrade solutions for their vehicles and they supply power upgrades as OE equipment. They are also heavily involved in remanufacturing for many automotive companies.

I bet the already impressive fuel consuption has improved

Mind you, for the money who could argue! Just have to wear helium filled shoes...

yeah i wouldnt not expect a 450bhp conversion to cost less than £3,000. that will be for the turbo only. of course that may be pretty much all you need, you coulg just wind up the boost but i think that is very unlikely (would probably need fueling upgrades too) and since they want it to be reliable they are going to need to strengthen most things I wouldnt expect too much change from £15k either afterall the Roger Clark motorsport conversion to give the Impreza 437bhp and 390lbft costs £15 including clutch so i cant believe the conversion for the evo would cost so little, i will go along to the trackday and have a look, i was going to be on this trackday but I went to Spa Francorchamps last week instead

well i went to see it and it seems ok, the bloke said it should be around £10,000 but i forgot to ask if that included VAT and labour although being an FQ wouldnt have thought it would have, it may mean £10,000 over an FQ330 or something. but the car did seem fairly rapid, although whoever was driving it needs some attention as the driving was very poor, nowhere near the racingline, went into the esses so early on numerous occasins that they had to take avoiding action to miss the tyre wall on the way in (wall on the right im on about not in the run off area) surely if you want to try demoing a product u want to use somebody who makes it seem fast, he had not even pulled 20 sec on a civic type r through the whole session!
