EVO X FQ 360, talk to me
Discussion
The 350z is getting old and, as much as I love it, I'm just starting to fancy a change.
Everything I know about the X is ideal for me, but I don't know everything about it.
The IX might be the more involving drive, but the more refined nature of the X is what appeals.
MPG/fuel costs aren't an issue, as I do so few miles anyway (walk to work). Insurance costs I know about.
But what I want to know are things like servicing costs, hidden costs I might not expect... The X is on a 10k service interval isn't it, unlike the IX?
So yeah, any sage advice would be welcomed.

Are you buying a new or used car? They have just had a price drop on the new cars so you should be able to get a used bargain or even a new bargain.
Have you considered a WRX STI HATCH? if so only go JDM with the 2.0l engine as the 2.5 is prone to engine failure
The 2.5 is prone to engine failure? Really? On what do you base this on?Have you considered a WRX STI HATCH? if so only go JDM with the 2.0l engine as the 2.5 is prone to engine failure

As the 2.5 block is a common upgrade when the 2.0 litre s
ts itself, in my opinion it's the other way around, mainly due to poor fuel and bad maintainence?SMcP114 said:

AFAIK, cylinder walls are thinner on 2.5 and 2.0 is generally stronger. So, for a mild power upgrade, 2.5 is better; for big power 2.0 is preferred. As the 2.5 block is a common upgrade when the 2.0 litre s

Yes of course the fuel consumption is horrendous because I go everywhere flat out, but isn't that the point? I don't begrudge it one single drop of super unleaded

How many miles do you get out of the tank? MPG?

The 2ltr is a stronger block by design. That does not make the 2.5 bad within its operating limits, however, they are not as good if you want to make bigger power.Have you considered a WRX STI HATCH? if so only go JDM with the 2.0l engine as the 2.5 is prone to engine failure

Fundamentally, a smaller diameter cylinder will always be structurally stronger.
The only issue with the 2.5 is in the hatchbacks and that was due to the map and not the engine- has since been rectified. 2.5's ran fine in the UK hawkeyes...........
He is only telling people to buy 2.0l JDM as that is what he sells! And i wouldn't trust a car from him anyway.
Original poster, stick with the EVO if thats what your after. Heard nothing but good things about the X so take one for a test drive and see how it feels. If it feels right then go for it!

Yes... But some people have pushed (with mods) the 2.5 lump too hard and it has gone bang. Back to that point about operating limits really. Its a shame because its made it more expensive to make big power with the hawkeye onwards...

I am with you on this, the 2.0l can be pushed further but there isn't anything wrong with a 2.5, depending on how sensible you are and how far you want to push it. Also who has touched it- I know a JDM 2.0l that went bang twice due to an idiotic trader. Its a shame because its made it more expensive to make big power with the hawkeye onwards...
Just pointing out the reason why he is pushing the 2.0l- sales.......

As for the earlier models.... Ahem.... Knock knock knock.
Plus I'd really like GTR Cook to elaborate on his mate's JDM 2.0, mainly for my own amusement

It gets quite complicated so i'll keep it short! A Trader (he has posted on this thread in fact) bought a car with a blown engine and 10k on the clock, bodged the rebuild and sold it for a premium as an "immaculate Spec C". Engine blew up again after 6k and the new owner got left to pay for the rebuild. As for the earlier models.... Ahem.... Knock knock knock.

Funny thing is the trader never mentioned it had previously had issues and has been lieing ever since. Problem is we found the truth from other companies that know the car. Would never have touched the car had he known its true history.
I'll get him to stick the pictures up.
