Ok, not rare as in a limited edition or anything (I've read the "Who Here Owns A Really Rare Car?" thread hehe) so before anyone starts, the Integra DA6 XSi was only ever sold in Japan 20 years ago and there are literally only a handful in the UK - so it's rare here and that's that covered tongue out

As such, it was a bit of a 'mare to insure last year when I first bought it. I spoke to a few insurance companies and many of them had no idea what it was so couldn't offer me a quote. In the end, the cheapest was Sky Insurance, who partially mirrored the NCB I had on my other car but it still ended up costing me £800. In fact, it cost me more than my DC5 that I owned at the same time, despite it being only a 1.6 with 160bhp.

A friend has told me that part of the issue might be that there was never a UK equivalent model, so in case of an accident (God forbid), replacement parts would have to be imported and may be expensive. Is this true?

So before my renewal comes again in September, I'd like to be armed with a few potential companies who might be able to help.

If anyone here has a bit of an oddball import and pays a reasonable amount for their cover, it would be great to hear who you're with. I refuse to pay £800 again this year!

Thanks.

Have you thought about a classic policy? I insure my RX7 with Peter Best for under £300, mileage is limited to 6k per year though.

Cheers for that, but I tried AF last year and they were over £1000. My car doesn't come up correctly on the comparison sites, unfortunately.

Limited mileage I don't mind - my other car is on a limited mileage scheme. I'll have a go at getting it on a classic policy and I'll try Peter Best, thanks for the suggestion.

Excellent, ta very much. I tried a few of these last year but there are some new ones here for me to speak to.

If anyone else can recommend any insurers, please let me know.

strangly enough the fact that there is no uk model wont be causing the high premium, we have had american cars for years and they are very cheap to insure. our first, a 77 ford thunderbird with 5.8L v8 cost £179 onthe same terms as we had a 2.8v6 sierra estate on that had been costing £600, we couldn't believe hgow cheap it was.

our current cars include a chevy dayvan £183, a nissan Stagea £650, and a clio £175 all on similar terms.

Well in that case, I don't know quite why it cost me so much last time around. Hopefully it's just that I just haven't found the right company yet.

Who is your Stagea insured with, if you don't mind me asking?

Mine's with Admiral of all people(My flabber was ghasted that they even quoted for such a oddball motor, never mind be the cheapest). They insured me for £440(when I first asked for a quote it was £380, but by the time I actually bought one 3 months later it had gone up), the next nearest was Adrian Flux who wanted over a grand.

My previous 3 cars (inluding 2 Japanese imports) were insured with Admiral but they haven't a clue what a DA Integra is.

I'm not sure whether I called them last year for the DA6, but I almost bought an R32 GTR last year and spoke to them about that, and they were pretty helpful. I'll give them a whirl, cheers.

Any more for any more?

I'd just like to say a huge thanks to Lee Haswell at A-Plan (I don't know if there are any A-Plan reps on here...?) for getting me a cracking quote for the next 12 months.

Sky, who I just had the last 12 months with, wanted £917 this year. Yep, getting on for £1000 for a 21 year old 1.6 Honda.

Adrian Flux were much better at £640, and Brentacre were also very helpful, coming in at £599.

However, A-Plan just blew them all away with a classic-based policy of £334, all modifications declared, through KGM.

I had my import insured with adrian flux, I had used them before but never had an accident. Having had a non-fault accident, writing off my car, I have lost out due to the accident management company recommended by AF being less than helpful.

One thing I've learnt, that if your car is worth more than a UK model (even if they are not strictly the same model) then be prepared to get shafted in the event of a payout.

Speak to Gary Molsen at Keith Michaels. Very helpful chap and always seems to give me a very good price on the 22b.

Competition car insurance seems to be a good option on rare and modified stuff, road use is still covered on pretty much any mileage you want, mods cover and of course track cover

I think it was Lee that sorted my insurance for my odd ball 2005 DC5 type S. £473 all in.
A very good quote.

Can I ask some questions Phil?

How old are you, what's you no claims and where about in the uk U based, urban etc.

That is an insane quote.

My punto 1.2 8v costs me £375 a year and i have 9 years no claims, live in london, am 31 and park the car off street.

I've been a customer off and on with A plan for many years especially with imports , they do seem to know their stuff and are happy to deal with modified vehicles
