I've rencently purchaced a Toyota Yaris D4D and i'm just wanting to know if this is normal as i've never drove a diesel before.

I've noticed that if I put my foot down in maybe 3rd or 4th gear from a low rpm (roughly 1800rpm) that the engine revs up pretty much straight away but doesn't move an awful lot, whilst keeping my foot to the floor the engine revs actually begin to drop briefly before starting to build back up again.

Is this normal for one of these small engined diesels with low power (75bhp) to behave like this? It almost feels like my clutch is slipping but I doubt this could be the case as it feels ok the rest of the time and its only done 26k miles.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping to me, can't think of anything else that would mean that revs aren't proportionate to road speed.

Thought it could possibly be the clutch but was just hoping it wouldn't be.

Thanks for the comments.

Yeah, assuming its a Manual, your clutch has had it.
