Insurance for your Jap car

I tried online and Elephant worked out cheapest, even though i was previously insured by Admiral (same parent company), i also tried to ring around to see if i could find anything cheaper but they were all coming in around 2.5 times the amount Elephannt quoted me.

I shop around every year, been with A-Plan before but their renewal took the piss and was very expensive - obviously expecting people just to stay with them. Usually get a quote from Keith Micheals, but again - rubbish. I used Surety this year after passing the IAM test, they HAVE to beat your best renewal quote by £30-40, but need proof of quote. Expecting the worst this year though after the discrimination ruling b

ks, even though I am over 30.I've had my best quotes from Elephant lately. 650~ for fully comp on an MR2 with alloys, exhaust, intake etc all declared. I'm 23 with 2 years NCB, so thought this was pretty good. It's the second lowest I've ever paid (after 390 for my Metro last year, third party). Once I get a little closer to the renewal date I'll ring round a few specialists, but I'll be surprised if they beat it.

+1 for SkyAlways heard great things about A-Plan & Keith Michaels... however it was my first year with a car over 200bhp so they wouldn't touch me
(for a decent price I mean)
So stuck to my favourites... Adrian Flux, who beat everyone once again by a couple of hundred quid. Might try the others if I keep it for a second year though!
I'm 26 with 6 years no claims and no points btw.

I've always been with Admiral pretty good tbh considering age/car.
I've never thought much of the so called 'specialist jap car insurers' their claims of, 'young driver? want to insure a turbocharged import? come to us!' never seem to be true! I've called specialists when I was 19 for my Mk2 MR2 and 21 for my Celica GT4 and they told me no go on the MR2 @ 19 and the GT4 policy was so restricted I may aswell have kept it as an ornament.
Rant over.

The young driver bit is nonsense and they should not claim that. However, if you are older and have experience with those types of car then it pays dividends. Admiral/Elephant were great when I was 25 with a fast ford, and even were quite good on my standard WRX PPP, however, they could no touch Keith Michaels when I mapped my current car.I've never thought much of the so called 'specialist jap car insurers' their claims of, 'young driver? want to insure a turbocharged import? come to us!' never seem to be true! For others looking I'm with Herts Insurance (HIC) and I drive an RX7 with an LS1 conversion. All mods declared and with agreed valuation as well. So worth a try for any special or modified JDM cars.
Adrain Flux were a close second and Competition Car Insurance were able to offer track cover options as well.
