Has anyone else had any issues with corrosion on their DBS? I have a 2008 and model and have just noticed a very slight spider thread on the fron roof lip. Will get it checked out by AM but got a feeling the warranty wont cover as its probably due to an external chip. Even so i wouldn't expect a car of this value to be prone to corrosion/paint chipping and beginning to regret having an AM even though they look and sound beautiful.

paint chips are a risk whether its a £20K car or a £200K one, the paint is similar these days ...sure they may take longer finishing it on premium cars, but the make up of the paint isnt going to be much tougher im afraid

however, there shouldnt be much on an aluminium, carbon/composite car that can really corrode, so I would suggest taking it to a dealer for their official opinion

Rather strange to have regrets and condemn a whole car (and brand) just because of a "very slight spider thread ".

Indeed.

I also note a similar thread 2 months ago when the same OP was given some excellent advice by both Rick and LuckyLuciano inter alia smile

Totally agree with the above comments.....you can't blame the brand because of external damage to the paintwork !

I think some people have taken issue to me being critical of Aston paintwork. I just feel on a £160k car paint should not be so prone to chipping and corrosion should be a thing of the past-this is a 2008 model so relatively new. Ive owned 911s and never had an issue on corrosion and even my wifes battered 5 yer old 1 series has stronger paint and not a sign of rust as yet. I'm really fussy so likely to get AM works to look at it and probably end up getting it painted.

So many 911 owners are experiencing total engine failure in low miles cars and Porsche is refusing to aknowledge the problem- just look at the porsche forum to see how widespread the problem is with 25K plus bills.

how can a car not made of steel rust!?

The best cure for stonechips; buy 2 cars the same, leave one in the garage to look at, and drive the other without a care in the world ..

isnt that what proper rich people do when they buy One-77 ?

£1.3 million squids, and it still gets stonechips when you drive it, so buy a spare one to hang on the wall...sorted ! smile

Well the DBS bonnet is made of aluminium and aluminium "rusts" too. Steel "rust" is the iron oxidising, which it does very quickly if exposed to oxygen and water - i.e. our normal outside enviroment.

Aluminium does the same thing but its not as dramatic or fast as iron, but it certainly happens. Just look at alloy wheels that have had the varnish chip off - the same spiders threading pattern can appear there...

just to clarify DBS is carbon fibre on bonnet, wings and bootlid with composite on doors and aluminium for roof. Just wish the whole thing was carbon fibre! Ive been looking after it like a new baby but just goes to show stone chips are inevitable - hope AM will sort it under warranty

Apologies - I meant roof of course not bonnet, as per your original post!

Yes stone chips are inevitable in any car, no matter the cost...

I keep hearing the line, it shouldn't happen on a £160,000 car, I expect better from Aston Martin etc. Paint is paint. It's physical make up is no different from one car to the next. The only difference is how much is used and how it is applied. I wish people would stop using the 'I expect better because it's an Aston Martin' phrase....You've got an Aston, most people don't, enjoy it!!!
