Shmee is defecting
Discussion
Right, some explaining to be done!
Firstly, I'm aware that the advert is priced very highly of course but you have to start high to accept something lower anyway if a buyer is interested in the car I would recommend they got in touch and we can discuss.
So, why, why, why!? Well I sat down and did the maths of how much it will cost to run the car over the next 4/5 months of summer with some fairly wild plans I have for European trips and doing an awful lot of mileage and worked out that it simply doesn't make a huge amount of sense. I would rather sell the V8V now and run a car along the lines of a BMW Z4M Roadster for a few months and put the saved money (in the region of £15-20k) back into something possibly more exciting afterwards. Maybe that will be a Ferrari F430, maybe a DBS if the Volante depreciates a bit more, or possibly a Vantage S, who knows! It wouldn't be right to own the car but not feel like I could actually use it; in this instance meaning 10k+ miles in a few months.
It's not an absolutely guaranteed move and I certainly won't be letting it go anywhere unless I thought I was making a good sale. I love having an Aston and it's the most fabulous ownership experience but I've got a long way to go ahead of me and will hopefully be owning plenty more in the future.

Hi Tim.
If I recall you recently bought a mini to save on Aston mileage. Why not use that as your runaround and still come home to a glorious V8V Roadster?
Make the AM your special. No disrespect but I can't believe you will have the same satisfaction from a Z4, as fine a car as they are.
In between my Tuscans and AM, I went down the 335i convertible route. Fully loaded and a beautiful car to drive, but no soul, wow factor. It did nothing for me. We bought new and lost a shed load as we parted with it after only a few months.
Like I said, a truly lovely car but no point if you don't actually enjoy driving it.
Whatever you do, good luck.

Reading between the lines I'd say that there was a fear of running into negative equity on the car. Used or not, the Aston will depreciate and if you're relying on just 15k to 20k to roll over to a different car then this margin is relatively small on an expensive car. You may have that equity in it now, but in 6 months on a Roadster, in the winter? If this is the case then he's doing the right thing at the right time of the year. All imho of course
Thing is the buyer lost a shed load upon purchase, pricey metal is shifting but more slowly and there are a lot of Volantes about Inc new ones with discount and finance. Surely the best option is to keep it until the market gets worse and chop
It against something that appeals.
I also fancy a DBS Volante but I have a limit for one and it's probably 6 months off that level so I got a cheap
SL55 for the summer that I will lose circa £5k on maybe less.

My DB9 is currently depreciating at circa £1,000 per month.
Couldn't give a monkeys as I just love driving it, and it will always retain a residual value.
Perhaps all Astons have INCREASED in value since yesterday's fantastic advert
Also noticed that the DB6 did indeed have a current tax disc on it, as per the full spread in today's Times.

You are doing the right thing Mr Shmee, I follow your vids on Youtube, top stuff! I'm in the trade and what you say makes so much sense financially - surely we are all ultimately driven by money. Cars like this are not unique, there are hundreds of them, sell now, countb your chips and re-invest for the next toy! I would bet that your strategy will send you upwards with little pain.

I can't understand why you think it's the " right thing" buying a top price Volante from a dealer in winter and selling at the start of summer for a huge loss in 6 months ?It might be a "necessary" thing but surely not the right thing.
Using it for the summer would at least temper the £15k+ loss against a summer of fun, IMHO if the owner HAS to get out then I would find the cash for the extra payments and sell end of August.
Back to comment finally!
Don't get me wrong, I do not hugely want to sell my V8V of course! It's the best thing I've ever enjoyed and going out for a drive, particularly down to Goodwood Supercar Sunday at the weekend is so exciting words almost can't describe. Driving down with a Testarossa through the southern English A roads was an absolute dream.
So why, it's literally down to the cost and my priorities; I'm 23 years old so it's hardly an absolute requirement to drive a car like this and in the near future I'm looking at all sorts of major expenses I may like to undertake; firstly leaving work to grow my own business. Many of you will know about www.youtube.com/shmee150 and www.shmee150.co.uk which run on advertising revenue but are becoming quite successful. I'm looking at going down this route so of course without a guaranteed regular income it would be nice to not lose so much in depreciation were I to leave my job in the near future and have the available cash for equipment and to provide more stability. Then there's looking at what car comes next, regardless of the above the money saved over 6 months can go straight back into that possibly. Thirdly I'd quite like to go 'crazy' and do a lot of other things while still young that I can't really let myself do while running such a valuable asset.
Somebody mentioned a risk of negative equity, fortunately I put down a significant deposit so am well clear of that happening, especially given the current value it's up at - although I'm running a 'reverse auction' style and regularly lowering the price. As mentioned I have a limit and will not sell it below that.
The alternative is to keep it but simply just not use it anywhere nearly as much, which I can probably do it would just be painful! Obviously this carries possible knock on effects in the future with the jobs I do and what I get up to. Who knows what will happen but for certainty it does require the right offer to come in, as exactly was the attitude I took with my previous S5 Cab when changing to the V8V and after about 4 weeks it did.

Shmee.....most people on this site at 23 were driving round in Ford Fiestas, or the like (I think I had a company Honda Civic)........I think the problem you have with some other members of this forum, is that you have been very vocal, with a comment made on most of the posts, and then your bugg***g off after less than 6 months! I wish you well and look forward to your return
perhaps it might be amusing for Aston owners to post what car they were driving at 23
