I have pre-owned '07 V8 Vantage. The previous owner seems to have always been in quite a rush to get out of the car as there are numerous chips in the driver-side door handle. It has been touched up before with nicely matched paint that disguises the color if not the indents from the chips. Unfortunately some of the paint has chipped off a bit. Considering that a replacement handle is approximately $1200, I am looking for a short-term remedy. I spoke with my dealer, and Aston Martin doesn't sell a touch-up paint. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any idea what color / type of paint might work?

Thanks,

brumma

seems like a common area of wear as my 5 yr old car is quite chipped

havnt bothered doing anything with it, as was going to replace the handle, thinking that a couple of hundred quid would be it ...not £800 + !

surely those prices cant be correct just for the door pull bit ?!

I agree with Tony this is the best and cheapest option and is usually more resilient once lacquered, new ones are £475.00 each including vat

Wouldn't have thought of that...need to get mine done. Annoyingly I chipped it myself the day I bought it! Filled it with petrol, got back in the car and shut the door with the key in my hand and knocked a chip out of the handle. I'd had the car about 15 minutes...I could have cried...

Are they made of rare metal, or is the factory indulging in abuse of privilege taking the piss..?

When I purchased mine, both were chipped.

Stratstone agreed to rectify them via ‘chips away’ but they couldn’t find a colour match.

Stratstone contacted AM and they couldn’t give a colour code!

In the end a local body shop sprayed them both in what I understand is a Peugeot colour and it is a brill match – nobody would know they had been done and it cost (Stratstone paid) about £140

Good body shops can mix any colour to match, can't they..?

Rick, is that price in US dollars, or did you actually mean pounds sterling? I was quoted ~$1200 in US dollars from my dealership.

Yeah, I assumed that a body shop could re-shoot them easily enough. I'm just looking for something short term for now. I found an old post on AMOC where a gent used a Toyota color for touch up. There was never any follow-up to that thread though. I just purchased a paint pen at an auto supply shop and will test out a bit on a CD to compare color. I'll post specifics if it matches.

The paint I used was OK, but the grey still seems to be a bit too warm. It is still noticeable, but at least it isn't white. For reference, I used Dupli-Color TY01614 / Phantom Grey / 1E3 / Toyota.
