Hi,

Can any one shed some light (no pun intended) on what my Airbag light is trying to tell me - it has come on and flashes three times then two times all the time when the engin is running. Its not lit solidly as I would expect for an airbag fault so I am wondering if it is some other diagnostics signal?

Nothing on the internet and obviously the AM Service Depts are all shut down for the bank holiday!

Any ideas anyone?

Many thanks.
Matt

Mine did the same for no apparent reason. Disconnect the battery for half an hour - I bet it goes away.

That means DTC has triggered error 32 (three flashes, pause then two)
Ford DTC 32 = Driver Side Air Bag Circuit High Resistance or Open.

I used to get this (dont laugh) on a Ford Escort, disconnecting the battery will cause the ECU to reset until the next time its triggered, this is usually caused by the plug connector under the driver seat getting old and not making good contact internally, I fixed this myself by disconnecting the plug and crimping / cleaning the internals on both sides.

Of course the disclaimer not to work on these systems with the battery connected etc, I cant be held responsible for damage etc but it worked for me :-)

The Airbag ECU was common across most of the Ford owned group.

Hope this helps
James

This will more likely be the clock spring connector or the two pin connector behind the wheel bag.

Simple fix really and quite often fixed by removing the connectors and refitting.

Turn on ignition, then be ready to get to the battery quickly as you need to disconnect it within 10 seconds of removing the key.
I do this by slackening the earth lead first then when I remove the ignition key I simply whip the strap off the battery and isolate.
Remember to lower your windows first ;-)

Disconnect battery for 10 minutes to ensure airbag circuit has de-energised.

Remove wheel bag (two torx screws on the rear)
Un-clip the two pin connector at the top (if wheel is straight)
Remove the upper and lower column cowling and release and refit the plug that fits to the end of the ribbon cable that enters the clock spring.

Refit everything and then reconnect the battery.

Switch on and test all is good.

Hopefully this should extinguish the airbag light.
