Discussion
I love my DB9 it a relatively trouble free, beautiful stunning car, and I consider myself privileged owning it.......however......I have an itch for a Vanquish S......am I leaving carm waters for a life on the stormy high seas (I should have been a poet).....just seen one advertised at sensible money......should I keep scratching or go have a look at it?

Correct - you ain't stupid Mr Gould.Di
Go and test it, take some pics, show them to us then WE will decide how your money is to be spent.
When advising we have noted that you love Finance, cherish Gap Insurance, embrace Poor People, and are not too bothered whether it is a 'Proper' Car or not.
Now stop being an insecure girly
Dear Mr Gould,
I keep having the same itch but have resisted so far. It is now your duty to both of us to not only look but get it bought, then provide copious updates to persuade me to do the same!
Get it done, get it done now.
And if it all goes horribly wrong you can at least take comfort in the knowledge you saved me from a similar fate

Michael the vanquish will be probably the most collectable of the modern Aston's, in comparison to the DB9 the servicing costs and repair bills will be higher, parts are more expensive, The gearbox in the vanquish is good the issue is with the asm ( hydraulics) that activate the gear change although there can be issues with 2nd syncro, correctly setup and minor leaks rectified etc (preventative maintenance)make them a joy to drive and own, but when they do go wrong they can be quite expensive to repair, my worst experience in an Aston was in a vanquish with gearbox issues driving in central London, once on the M1 she came alive and was completely awesome, she is a lover of the open road and complains when held up in traffic, In my opinion the interior looks older than her age but the car has a whole has a timeless quality and a real muscle car feel, The vanquish is a modern classic not that really makes sense,

See if you can try one for a bit. I love mine, can't touch The Vantage but nothing can. It looks great (more muscular than the '9) Has a reasonably up-to-date interior (very similar to the '9) Seats are not very comfortable (very similar to the '9), but has, IMHO, a lot more "Aston" character than the '9 - more hand-crafted, a little more individual, a lot more rare. But if I had a '9 would I change it for a Vanquish S? Not sure.Early DBSs are now similar in price to late Vanquish Ss - coming from a '9 maybe the DBS is the way?
Edit: To stress The Vantage.

Michael, I'm so close to doing what V8LM is suggesting with a 2010 DBS Volante. I can't bring myself to part with my V8, having gone through the whole buying from new experience with her, so if it happens it's going to be an expensive itch to scratch keeping both. Probably like you, trying to justify things Aston related sometimes requires someone, normally the OH, sitting on your left shoulder telling you why you shouldn't and not other enthusiasts telling you why you should, which is why I haven't posed the exact same question on here I had the DB9 to Vanquish itch some time ago but after a drive i decided against it. The interior of the Vanquish is outdated and there is so much more space (for a tall driver) in the DB9 so coming back to the DB9 you just felt immediately that the game had moved on away from the Ford parts and feel. I then changed the DB9 to a V12 Vantage - now that was a step in the right direction. More interior space, beautifully crafted, much more planted, great noise and a real wild beast to drive. This is the proper successor to the Vanquish S and if Aston keeps true to their word there will be a lot less V12Vs on the road than there are Vanquishs. The Vanquish however remains an icon but as with women it is probably a bit more Angelina Jolie than Jennifer Aniston.
