Quick question....

If you saw a V12V with 20% wear on the front discs and 10% wear on the rear discs with 3000 miles done what would you think? Is that "normal" for a performance car?

Would I therefore expect to need a new set of front discs at about 15,000 miles?

John has the car only been used for normal road use or track as well, as that does not seem right, possibly for the pads if quite spirited in your driving but even this I would still find unusual, the estimated life of the discs is no where near 15000 miles,

Errrr, thats not normal at all. The V12V has carbon ceramic brakes that are supposed to last the lifetime of the car "in normal conditions".

Ah - Rick - yes, indeed, this is the pads. Note to self - pay more attention.

So this sounds to you that the car has been tracked or else just driven very, very hard?

possibly, but late hard braking can also accelerate wear, as can if the pads are tight in the carrier, also what ever the prior usage if you are more sedate then they will last longer in your care, also I presume the pads have been visually inspected rather than actually measured so I would take this just as a guide rather than fact

Thanks Rick. At >£3,700 per corner (main dealer price - no doubt DMS are less expensive) for disc and pads I want to be very careful about this!

The discs should last three to four pad changes so do not worry,

So Rick you are saying the estiamted life of the discs on a V12V is far less than 15K? :-O (hahaha sorry...couldn't resist!)

How very dare you? The contents of my sock drawer are a matter strictly between my and my socks!

But it's £3,700 per corner, so £14,800 for all four. Now that much would only fit in my underpants draw :-)
