Hi all,

Tried search, could not find anything . Anyone had direct experience of above. Thinking about migrating. How do they compare performance wise.

Thanks

Dave

Had a Sagaris and Tuscan before

a 4.3 vantange is slower on paper, but once youve acclimatised, in the real world you dont notice

4.7 is just as quick real world and close on paper...you can actually extract the performance easier than in a TVR and thus use it more of the time

of course a lot depends on your driving style and wear you drive...B road blats or long touring holidays, but I dont "miss" the performance

I went from Tamora to a Vantage, I would reccomend the sports upgrade or a N400/420 if funds allow as you may find the standard ride a little soft when used to a TVR.

That would be me then!

I had two Tuscans, the 2nd one being an 'S' before coming over to the dark side.

If you are considering an Aston I guess the nearest is going to be a V8 Vantage.

For a start you dont have to sacrifice a virgin whilst praying to get home in one piece when you drive the Aston erm, shall we say, enthusiastically.

It got to the stage where I started to believe I was on borrowed time with the Tuscan. It was very unpredictable. It sometimes felt it had a mind of its own. The rear for no apparent reason losing it on even mild manouevres, and once on a dry straight road at only 50mph. When I was a frequent contributor on the Tuscan forum I found I was not alone in these quite bizarre handling experiences.

Tyres, suspension, all sorts of suggestions but nobody had cracked it in my time there.

I had heard rumours of poor build quality on Astons but from my experience the two I have had are leagues ahead of the Tuscan.

If you go manual, then the gearboxes aren't too dissimilar. I bit notchy between 1st and 2nd when cold but otherwise very smooth.

For general road use its unlikely you will get the chance to use to full performance, so to say the Tusc is allegedly a tad swifter 0/60mph I dont think is entirely relevant. Personally I think the Aston handles better.

If you go for a Roadster, you dont have to put up with that tiresome targa.

I have no idea re servicing costs nowadays on a TVR, but there are some great people on here who will service an Aston (prob better than a main dealer in some instances) for very competative prices.

I could waffle on for ever, but to quote the normal advice, get out and test drive one.

Dependant on budget I guess the later 4.7 is where I would start, with a Sportspack.

Do I regret my move???

You must be kidding. The Aston is the best car I have been lucky enough to own.

Looks, sound ( much nicer than the straight6 imho ) presence on the road, everything really.

Judging by the enormous number of ex TVR people on here, I guess I am not alone in my opinion.

Good luck

Di

If you can find a virgin these days then there is no harm keeping one in the passenger seat for other purposes knowing you are not going to waste it on a sacrifice! ;-)

I had a 4.3 TVR Griff many years ago and have had two Aston Vantages (a 4.7 V8V and currently a V12V)...

Bits dropped off my TVR on an almost daily basis and it leaked. As a result I never really dared to drive it too fast in case it completly disintegrated!

It was quite possibly the worst car I have ever owned, but ironically its quite probably the car I was more enthusiastic about buying that any other before or since. Once the ownership nightmare began I very quickly regretted buying it and sold it soon afterwards.

The Astons are everything the TVR tried to do "on the cheap". They are quite simply the best cars I have ever owned. Not for one second have I ever regretted buying either of the Astons.
