Not trying to start an argument in anyway or be accused of trolling but i have a question for you guys.

Having run a lot of roadtrips over the last few years i'm rather surprised at how few Astons take part.
we get our mix of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Lotus, TVR etc as well as less exotic but nonetheless worthy and fun cars coming along.

However, out of 8 tours last year we only had one Aston, a DB9 volante.
This year, on 10 tours we're taking around 200 cars and as far as i can remember not a single Aston among them so far.

firstly, is it me? (did i upset someone....Lady Topaz, that really wasn't me on the M25!) are our trips to cheap?
Do you prefer single marque trips
I know the AMOC don't run trips so what do you guys do, or do you not do tours in your car?

As i said not trolling just curious as we get a real mix and the one marque that seems to be missing is Aston Martin

Hi Bachi,

Good to meet you on Mondaysmile
For me personally I would love to do one of your trips but I have to consider my other half.
She does like cars and driving but if it was all about cars and too much driving she would get bored easily.
I have put in for a weekend pass so I can come alone to one of your trips;)

Hey,' Harsh'

Welcome to my world.

Firstly, you didn't ruffle my feathers as I just posted what I saw. Be honest, if you saw someone 'possibly' showing off in a supercar and it goes wrong cos its the wrong time and place, what would you think? The marque is irrelevant. Anyway, thats old news.

I attend PH meets at the Woodman Ide Hill and there are often Ferrari's present.

You may have guessed by now I am a busy body, so if you guys want a joint meet pm me and I will see if any interest.

To be honest, I think the official car clubs can be a bit protective, but I would like to think PHer's have a wider agenda.

Having upset your forum I would still be happy to be invited to one of your meets.

I look good in armour

Di

Having read again, You are talking road trips. If the dates and wallet match then yep, up for that.

Hi Dave, good to meet you too after all this time.

That's an issue we used to come across a lot which is why Pete and I developed a bit of a range of trips.

The hardcore ones like Alpine North and Wales for example are all about the driving whereas the Highland, Viking and Alpine South trips are more relaxed, picturesque and do tend to appeal to couples.

It does come to personal taste of the individuals/couples concerned, but in the main all our trips are more about the community spirit (as i'm sure Pete has told you!) and it's very rare that there aren't 50% couples on each trip.

Hiya...
I actually thought your question was a fair one....Andrew's response was actually goading me rather than you but you weren't to know that (he's a genuinely nice guy who always seems to post dry tongue in cheek comments). Yes some people take showing off too far but in the main i'd like to think most of us exotic (yes including AM) owners are just enthusiasts...except those that don't wave back biggrin

my meets at the Ace cafe are always open to all, as are my charity events (Dads Day Out/Dunton etc) and we regularly get Astons showing up and helping out an of course i'd love that to continue and to grow.

Dave and Tim held up the Aston end on monday and i believe someone is arranging a display at Dunsfold too.

but back to roadtrips.....the main reason for my post....does that tend to stay single marque or has Petrolhead Nirvana simply not reached the AM guys?

Ok,
And this is just a very personal response, its posts like from 'Lost soul' on my thread that make me feel we are in the dark ages. I commented on something, had mostly negative replies but so be it.

Because I love cars I have organised a few TVR and Aston events over the last few years and really want us to be more involved in meets, events etc, and that includes other marques. The interest is here I am sure. We are not stuck up AM owners, no different from other marque owners.

I want to do more involving other marques.

If interested perhaps pm me so not to clog up PH.

and yes there's always someone who wants to jump on a kicking bandwagon....more the nature of forums than the nature of the owners

In terms of multi-day trips, have done plenty in the AM. Just prefer to do them on my own by and large, or in a small group. Far less attention attracted that way, which is only ever a benefit.

I have increasingly less desire to be out on the road with dozens of other fast/exotic cars. As numbers increase, you inevitably always get someone who thinks they're Ayrton Senna (and is usually the direct opposite), and the cops often spend more time than is fun thinking an escort's needed.

Am also not sure where your meets are organised...despite the CS link, I've never searched out PHN smile

OK, been over to the Fezza forum to find out what all the fuss was all about biglaugh. On that topic please don't look at the thread on here re why Aston drivers don't acknowledge each other - it would appear we are a snobbish up our selves sorts with no real interest in the marque. Apart from people on the Aston PH Forum!
The vast majority of people on here are very frendly, always looking to help / provide advice. There are a fair few characters on this forum, some whom can appear to be rude, but if you've been here long enough you would realise they are straight talking / enjoy gentle wind ups etc.
As to why I personally haven't been on any of your roadtrips - two simple reasons - firstly, what roadtrips?! Never knew about them - would be up for a meet at something like the Ace Cafe. Second reason, and its purely personal, I don't do 'organised group tours'. Got nothing to do with not mixing with Italian cars or other marques, don't do big car tours. I don't do them on the motorbike either. Meet ups are OK.

Not sure this is the right forum for those sorts of confessions!!! ;-)

Road trips - Not sure I really fancy them. Might be a good crack with a mate but my Mrs would hate it......don't really have enough time to do all the stuff I want to do with my family and the few hobbies I do have so getting a pass for another 'holiday' on my own would be slim!

Hi Andy, our meets are either organised on the EMT forum on PH or over on our own site and then proliferated....I stopped sponsoring CS a while back as there seemed to be an aversion to mixing marques although there are a few who on there who come along and that number is growing.

Our trips are very much in the vein of 'leave your ego at home and just come and enjoy yourself' and we police that quite strongly as it's our reputation at stake if anything goes wrong.

yes it's all a bit silly really.. ( i did look at the acknowledgement thread and replied in my own way smile )
in the main all petrolheads are friendly but there are always a few that don't fit the mould.....perhaps we ought to make them drive prius's? biggrin

What gives you that idea?

A few pics of last weekend's AMOC tour/trip to Reims. 20 cars/40 people, splendid weather, fine dining, nice chateau, a good cross-section of Astons and really good company. And, good fun it was too smile

Meeting at Dover on Thursday

A visit to the track

Hosted by Tattinger at their caves

Indeed, apologies...i know about the Champagne trip...although isn't that more of a weekend away than a roadtrip?.

Looks like a lot of fun too Reims is always a nice place to visit

I am taking my good lady on our first organised road trip in the Aston. Not sure whether I can name the company we are going with, but it takes place in June and we go down to Monaco and back (Riviera Adventure). There are up to 50 cars going and currently we are one of only two Astons booked to go.

Not sure what to expect, but am very much looking forward to it.

Any roadtrip that takes you away from these shores is going to be fun, once you're on the road, it's enhanced by the company you keep and places you visit.....

but in the end it's all about those fabulous roads...you'll have a great time i'm sure smile

sorry to tak ethis OT, but Harsh, I was talking to you about the Dad's Day Out on the 911 site....and was waiting to hear back. There are a few here that will be attending, and would have been keen for a static display for our AM's. How has the organisation gone, and is it something you think we should do?

Cheers
