Controversial - I like the Sat nav!
Discussion
First long(ish) road trip after 4 months of ownership and we pop up to the lakes last weekend (from Cambridge in the V8V Roadster).
I thought the sat nav was great. The thing I liked most was it tells you in advance where you need to be so you get in the correct lane(I know that sounds obvious so let me give an example)
My Mrs's Honda CRV - 'In one mile take the next exit' <Pause as I go almost right up the slip road> 'At the roundabout take the 4th Exit' <Swearing and cussing now because I am in the left lane and now need to get across 4 lanes with 100 yds to the roundabout>
In the V8V - 'In one mile take the next exit, then stay on the right' <Up the slip road we go in the right hand lane> 'At the roundabout take the 4th exit' <already in the right hand lane so that's simple>
It didn't seem any worse than the TOM TOM or the Honda system for accuracy etc.
I'm sure after a while I'll pick up on a few niggles but at the moment I like her!

I have to agree, ours works fine as well. My wife has a Civic which appears to be more graphic but no more effective than the Astons. Having paid about £1750 for its installation would I say otherwise? There has been so much negativity from others that we sort of don't trust it. We are headed up to the north west of Scotland soon so will keep you posted.

upgrade it to latest disc helps a bit
the woman is miserable ...thought I find it works perfectly fine when you get used to it
...amazing how a technology can become common place and "must have" feature in such a short time
and how a car can be so good, the only thing people moan about is sat nav thats not bang up to date LOL

I agree. Once I updated to the latest discs with full postcode searching and up to date roads, I became a fan. Obviously it's not as good as my £22.99 app on my iPhone which knows road names and speaks them - "turn right into Bishop's Avenue" - but for some reason nothing is that you pay £1,500 + for in a car. The Aston Martin system, however, holds on the the GPS signal much better than my iPhone, and is ready to start navigating instantly, which my iPhone is not.

I wouldn't say the Satnav works perfectly. It works and does the job and I agree that the updated discs help a little.the woman is miserable ...thought I find it works perfectly fine when you get used to it

But it's way behind in function and display from a far cheaper Tom Tom or Garmin and generations behind what's currently fitted to other makes such as BMW. On a car costing in excess of £100K it's just not good enough.
It is the second worst aspect of my car (and that's probably because I choose not to use it much).
The most annoying thing....
That little strap with the magnet that's supposed to hold the seatbelt in place!! It doesn't! It's always coming undone!!
So, the Satnav is NOT the only thing I moan about!
not meaning to excuse Aston Martin, but theyve just updated the Nav to latest Garmin in the Virage ...so thats a 5-6 year shelf life for the old Volvo system before (well less if you count the move from DVD to HDD)
now consumer electronics changes every 3-6 months it seems, and no way AM cant keep up with that in their cars ...even the mainstream guys dont change that often...Audi went for quite a few years with the same nav...as did BMW ..well maybe a bit less, I can think of 3 generations of BMW NAV in 10 years, so they maybe go 3 years, but they have a lot more cash to spend, and high volume of products to amortise the costs
anyway, we will get the latest Garmin soon in new AM cars...and in 12 months time can start moaning again that its 12 months out of date from whats in the shops

where can I buy the upgraded disc for an 05 DB9?.. any no of a decent website?
You need Volvo Part Number: 31310191 (Volvo XC90 with RTI, model year 2003-2006)I bought my 2010 discs from FRF Volvo Swansea who sell them for £150.80 + £5.50 PP, RRP £186. (Pre VAT increase) Call Simon in parts on 01792 790066.
Or you could try someone like this: http://WWW.sat-navi.com/volvo.html , but they don't appear to cover all countries n Europe
