I'm looking at getting a V8V (would be my 1st Aston) and the N400 has caught my eye. Currently a few on PH Classifieds for example:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2695780.htm £56.5k

Are the N400's depreciating slower than the standard cars? Are they likely to be a long term better buy?

Is that the right price for that car above? Looking at all the N400 ad's it seems to be in the right ball park, but I hear anaecdotal stories of 2nd hand Aston's selling at massive discounts to the 'screen' price.

I currently drive a Lotus Elise S2 Sports Racer hence why the N400.

all seems about right ...to be honest there are not really hundreds for sale of that model, so unless you know the real selling price of every one sold, its hard to judge

but going on other Vantages, the list price and spec, all seems spot on

nice car, of course you can always offer a few grand less and see how motivated the seller is wink

The N400's do hold value slightly better.
When I was buying last year they were few and far between, seems to be loads now frown
I ended up paying the same sort of money for a 4.7 with sports pack, really glad I did as the 4.7 interior and engine is nicer.
The sport pack gives it the N400 suspension & alloys as well!

Prices seem to vary wildly for a car made for only a year. From the crazy £80k (http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1672263.htm) to miley ones at 55k. Mileage seem to play a more important part than for other versions. Lots of topics on whether the premium is worth paying or stretch a few K more for an equivalent 4.7.

I bought a ultra-low mile N400 with every option... a similar spec 4.7 was 8k more at the time. Even now, as 4.7s are now available for the same (or less) money I'd probably stick with the N400.

The car you have listed is a private sell. I'd want a warranty for the first year to be sure and it would have to be mint condition with a recent service to compete with the dealer versions. How about looking at some of the slightly higher mileage ones kicking around the dealers, I'm sure they'd be up for a deal as it seems no-one wants a 25k miles N400.

True but it is not an N400 and still has the 4.3 interior
It is a 4.3 with a load of bits on,the wrong wheels and a "marmite" colour
Having said that it is a good deal if you "like" it.

I'd stretch to this one, lower miles, 4.7, better colour combo, dealer warranty

I think your getting somewhat confused! the 4.7 is the dreadful marmite colout to which you refer!

On my car all the 'load of bits' are all Aston martin upgrades same engine as n400 same suspension as N400 and the even lighter sportspack forged wheels that are an option on the MY10 cars on- they cost more than ths 5 spokes! there is also the little matter of the 13,000 more that it costs!!

355f: So is that 13k for the 4.3 normal to 4.3 N400 upgrade if doing the options you mentioned above?

The 13K to which i make reference is the difference between the two cars listed on the previous post

A guide to upgrade prices is thus!!

AM engine upgrade £2.5K
AM sports suspension and wheel package £5.5K
AM lights £1K
Sills ( I prefer the originals)- about £1K fitted.

Fantastic topic guys, thought I'd add my 2p as it's my brothers N400 at the top of this thread - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2695780.htm

All of the above mentioned cars are stunning! The difference in pricing is to do with the condition and mileage of the cars. My brother’s car has been kept exceptionally well, regularly waxed with Dodo Juice products and stored in a dehumidified garage when not in use. It also has the clear 3M film on the front to protect from stone chips.

He traded his standard 4.3 for this N400 and the difference is night and day. It's not just about the sport pack and engine upgrade, it's the little touches which make the car feel extra special. The deeper black paintwork looks phenomenal on the N400 (standard car was also black).

In twenty years time, who's going to entertain the standard models??

Looking at all the selling prices of the N400's on Pistonheads and on Autotrader (9 in all) and then graphing with best fit line. An N400 loses 46p mile in depreciation all other things being equal.

I always go with the logic that the more I drive the car before I sell it, the lower cost per mile and more VFM I got out of it smile

Entirely agree!

I was talking more in terms of trying to assess whether one advertised for sale is over or underpriced.
