So, I've had the V8V for a week and a day. I had my first really bad experience in it last night. For no apparent reason, some jerk decides to tailgate me very aggressively and refuses to pass. I was a bit shaken when we arrived home. My wife and I argued for the remainder of the drive about "what I had done wrong," which only served to rattle me even more. Apparently, I forgot to engage the handbrake when we arrived home, and I woke up this morning with the back of the car resting against the garage door. There is now a dent and nick in the paint on the bumper overrider as well as a dent in the bumper right above it. I'm supposed to go away for the weekend, but that is now ruined since I won't be able to think about anything else. I really feel nauseous.

I bought the car from an independent, but I'd rather they not know about this. I think they might be able to do a paintless dent removal on the bumper itself, but is that area even accessible without disassembling the entire rear end? The overrider will definitely need paint--are those removable? I should also mention that it is a color match paint--Ferrari Tour de France Blue--so where do I find the paint code? Should I consult my local AM dealership for a recommendation, or go to an independent? What should I do?

Very bad luck, and two miserable things to have happened, but keep telling yourself that it's only money, and get it properly fixed so it's perfect. In a few days the worry will have faded.

Relax!

Life is far too short for it this to ruin your whole weekend and you don't necessarily have to do anything wrong for people to act like idiots and intimidate other road users.

Personally I'd ask the forum community to recommend a local repair shop. Failure here would mean a visit to my local dealers and put the episode down to experience.

Good luck!

Sounds like a miserable start to the weekend...

For paint, there was a useful thread a few weeks back about getting paint colours:

There are some psychologically deficient people on the roads; don't let it bug you.

I'd have tried a 360 on a roundabout; on the odd occasion I think I've picked up a nutter it's always shaken them off. If he's still there, pull up outside a police station or somewhere that has lots of witnesses. Always keep cool and plan at least one action ahead.

On second viewing, I believe I am mistaken regarding damage to the bumper itself. What appears to be a dent exists on both sides, and is just how the bumper curves above the corner of the overrider. It would seem the damage is limited to the overrider itself.

Many thanks. This sort of thing seems to be the norm in my life. Somehow I always seem to get something really nice and do something to mar it's perfection immediately. I'm either really unlucky, or a complete idiot.

Those overriders (on either side of the license plate) appear to be removable. Does anyone know if this is actually the case? If so, how are they accessed?

Brumma - cheer up. Its only a dent. Don't let this ruin your week-end. Take the car out with your GF and blow down a couple of country lanes and everyhthing is forgotten. There are far worse things that can happen. Have a good week end.

Clorenzen, thanks, mate. I'll try. Unfortunately I don't have a girlfriend, so I'll just have to take the wife instead.

Neither. You're just what's generally known as "normal".

Forget it. As others have said, worse things will happen. The telling thing is how you handle them wink

Not sure if they are removable seperately. This may help as it appears lots of people have dents in the rear bumpers.

Felt sick a few months ago after 2 mountain bikes dropped on the bonnet. All better now - have stopped feeling sick wink

Mine has this as well. I thought at first that it was part of the damage, but then noticed that it was symmetrical. The car only impacted with the garage door handle on one spot.
