Hi guys,

I have been dreaming a long time about driving along the Cote D’Azur in a proper sports car, and now, owning a V8V, I feel time has come smile
As I know that many of you have been there already, some quick questions:

Where is best to sleep? I’ve seen the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, any better or nicer hotels in the region? I have nothing against cheaper alternatives but with same class service/location/views wink
Whats the best time to make the trip?
Any good routes?

Thank you in advance!

Can't help with accommodation, but avoid July and especially August unless you like pottering amongst the traffic!

As for routes, the Route Napoleon is a must-do if you're going to be in the area, although it's not 'along' the Cote d'Azur.

Do they take cards yet? Never been (only ever done villas on the Cote), but apparently it used to be cash only.

Be warned.

It is a fabulous venue but in the true Gallic fashion, even six star service only extends so far.

Although some years ago, I well recall being harangued by some particularly foul harridan as we attempted fifteen minutes in and around the infinity pool after a day wasted bathing elsewhere, namely, in the foul foam of an ignominious, Cerberatic strop by the hotel entrance.

Despite the somewhat feeble protests of swmbo and my rather flabbergasted self, we were marched unceremoniously to the little cable car lift contraption and told "la baignade est interdite sans le sauveteur qui termine à 6."

The rest of it, I couldn't quite catch but later deciphered (in my special, pocket edition 'Mound of Dead Frenchies Translation Guide, Vol I') that it was also considered more than a tad uncouth to recline in such establishments sporting a white, knotted handkerschief, about the bonce and rolling your pants up to just below the knee.

Billy Butlin would not have approved.

Thank you guys, looks bad then. No probs paying much and receiving much, have a huge problem the other way around.
I write this out of a villa on the Maldives smile. Pretty expensive everything here, unbelievable beautiful landscapes, service quality medium compared to Mauritius (or even Seychelles). But I’m afraid that Cote would be much much worse.

Ok then, any decent hotel around the Cote with nice views with a good price/value ratio? Or is it getting much worse when you step down in the price?

I'm sure there are others who've been to the Côte more than me, but these are my recommendations:

Run by an Irish couple (or used to be at least). Leafy, quiet location, with excellent walking. Restoration of this property took several years. The neighborhood will make you feel poor, but the smell of the pittosporum tobira is heavenly.

Staying there might make you poor. Best location, IMHO.

To avoid the worst of Monaco or Nice traffic, you can take the Cap D'Ail exit from the A8 for either hotel, as they're within a mile. Please post pics here of your AM in front of the hotel, and eat at le Cabanon in Cap D'Ail, if you can find it!

lived in the area for 2 years.

Absolutely avoid July & Aug and Cannes film festival.

either side of those months will still be busy but more bearable, Eden Roc beautiful and some lovely sunset/rise walks around the Cap, Juan les pins has great night life, casino etc, 'Les Vieux Murs' Restaurant 9/10.

Town of Eze on the way to Monaco from Nice is stunning, the main 5* hotel there has the best view and ambience of any 5* hotel we've stayed in (a fair few) but prices off season are still in the 7-800 a night, still worth a lunch or dinner there even if you dont stay the night wink

I have loads more if you want, right down to little boutique hotels and restaurants as we arranged for visiting family, just PM me smile

The key to enjoying this place though is the time you go! we moved away from the area because of July & August wink
