I have a 2006 V8V that I use as my daily drive.

My recent cars (Range Rover / 997) haven't really needed any extra oil between services.

My TVR's (especially the Tuscan) needed regular oil top ups between services.

I only do about 250 miles a week, so how often should I be checking my oil / expecting to add more?

Once/ twice a month. Currently doing less than 250 miles a month.
But then I've owned two wankel engined cars, so used to being paranoid about oil level. smile
Hardly ever need to top up the Aston

in my experience I usually top up once or twice between services ...so every 3K ish...you will soon get to know your own engine. Nowhere near as much oil as I used to go through in previous cars like TVRs and modded Elises

Probably don't check it as often as I should. 2 or 3 times max between services. It never needs any.

I check mine approx. 2 to 3 times a month as I don't do that many miles in it. Not needed a drop since the last service which was around 5,000 miles ago now.

No it has not!

They are two different oils.

Having done in depth analysis I can expand a bit!

The Edge 10/60 ( originally castrol RS- and now modified) is a formula developed for the BMW M series 5 engine with a specific formula that contains high quality base stock and esther- a polarising agent.

Edge sport, is a cheaper variant that does not contain esther and the quality base oils but its this oil that is suggested by AM.

I use the Edge and dont bother with the edge sport

Confusion reigns then, reading http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=297... it suggest that RS is discontinued and to use Edge Sport. Additionally, the well quoted Opie Oils also recommend Edge Sport (http://www.opieoils.co.uk/product-finder/car/engine-oil/aston-martin/2008/vantage/PETROL/vantage/661/product-finder-2.aspx)

Castrol edge is the modern RS- opie oils website will suggest the edge sport as thats what Aston suggest.

Give opie a ring and ask them which is the better oil and you will get a different answer!

Ta. Will order some Edge then.

Good thread to clear up the confusion, don't you think?
