After a more spirted than normal drive, when I shut the car off and got out I noticed what seemed to be a pump running from the rear of the car. It was not one of the electric fans up front. Does the SportsShift transmission have a cooling pump that runs when the car is shut off when warm enough? It does not sound at all like the pump that runs whenever you open the drivers door when the car is cold

Hi Mills. J…!
If the sound you hear is different to the sound when you open the door from cold (the ASM pump), then what you hear now is (obviously) not that. There are NO auto transmission cooling fans fitted to the V8 Vantage, cooling is achieved by the pump fed oil supply system and air motion through the cooler matrix.
So, the sound you hear, given the information you provide, is unlikely to be anything to do with the transmission system.
If the sound is continuous and you feel confident to perform a little investigation of your own prior to a trip to the dealer, here is my advice.

1) To rule-out the ASM pump making the noise, when the ignition is on and the sound can be heard, remove fuse 8 from the trunk/boot fuse box. If the sound stops, it is the ASM pump.
2) To rule-out the sound coming from exhaust bypass valve vacuum pump, when the ignition is on and the sound can be heard, remove fuse 22 from the trunk/boot fuse box. If the sound stops the exhaust bypass valve pump is at fault/can be heard.
3) The only other source of the sound you mention could be the fuel tank leak detection pump. When the ignition is on and the sound can be heard, remove fuse 28 from the engine compartment fuse box. If the sound stops, instantly, something to do with fuel system leak detection is at fault/the cause of the sound.
After removal of each fuse, replace before checking the next item.

If the problem is something to do with fuel tank leak detection, I would expect to see a MIL illumination on the dash if there is a problem? If removal of fuse 28 creates a ‘MIL’ illumination, then don’t worry, it will extinguish after a few key cycles / period of driving.
If your car is out of warranty? Then at the very least, this small amount of home-diagnosis will save some time and money in the garage..!

My guess here is that what you hear is the exhaust bypass valve vacuum pump, so better to leave fuse 22 out and hear the glorious V8 burble across all engine operating conditions..!
Hope this helps,
Mike.
