I’ve just been looking through the classifieds and I came across the DB7 Vantage, a car I’ve always liked. Now they seem to sitting around £25-30k, a little bit more for a GT and I was just wondering if there were any people on here who had experience with the DB7 GT who could answer some questions on them. :

1. What are the like to drive? I use a DB9 quite regularly and that’s a brilliant car. Smooth and comfortable but has the power if you need it. How does the Db7 GT compare?

2. What are the running costs like? I’m used to high running costs as I have a couple Ferraris but they’re not going to be any more to run surely?

3. How reliable are they? The DB9 has been faultless as long as it used regularly or is plugged into the battery conditioner, if it isn’t it’s a nightmare.

4. What are the back seats like? I use a 911 everyday and they’re not bad, whereas the DB9’s are pretty terrible to be honest.

5. Is there a big difference between the standard Vantage and the GT? I much prefer the looks of the GT and the sports seats and well the extra power is never a bad thing wink

Thanks for the help.

You'll hate me for suggesting it but you could have a 400bhp DB7 i6: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2556010.htm

Hi Ive owned a 2003 GTA for the last three years and have also previously owned a 2000 DB7 vantage volante. After selling the first DB7 I done the usual 996 then 996 c4s, Jaguar xk8 and xjr , merc Sl, but could never get the same amount of owner/driver satisfaction that I got from the initial DB7 vantage.

So the GT seemed the only way to go . The GTA does certainly handle better, whether that was because I previously owned a Volante,I dont Know? But the difference is massive. I was also drawn to the fact that they are a very rare car and not on every corner ,since ownership Ive never seen another...ever! also the fact that it just seemed to be the ultimate DB7 and any slight niggles from my last vantage was rectified such as cheap ford switch gear, door handles etc also it just felt (within a space of three years between the two cars) come along way and just felt newer/sorted???

Never had major issues with either cars other then niggles that have turned out to be easily sorted, low mileage seems to be the thing to have, get a good specialist with loads of knowledge rather then Main Dealers and your Ok. Parts are easy to get had a problem with my starter (turned out to be a loose wire!) but in the diagnosing process found out that if needed replacing it was the same as a Ford Focus and a new one would only be £80 ish!) carnt get that with a DB9!

All in all a great car ,nothing for the money £35ish comes close to rarity (only about 60 GTA's made!), looks , drive, holds it money and just maybe a future classic ?.....How much are them DB5's making again!?

Get one you wont regret it ...

Spend the extra buy a gt ,i had one of the last ones 25k miles on when i sold it, they drive so much better than the standard car,i really enjoyed my 2 yr ownership,i bought a db9 following that and what a disappointment, had to spend more dosh to fit a sportspack to make it handle anything like the gt

The Manual GT.

Best one of the bunch, more power, more torque, 6-speed manual box, higher top speed etc..

Made in higher numbers than the Auto version but then it is the better drivers car for sure, and only 190 were ever built so again still very rare.

It's definitely a drivers car, push it hard and it delivers very well.

There is a lot of difference between the V12 DB7 Vantage and the V12 DB7 GT.

Approx 50% greater downforce, fantastic brakes, sport seats, lowered ride, twin plate clutch, underbody aerodynamics, styling, interior finish, engine power/torque, faster gear change, bespoke wheels, repositioned steering rack, stiffer suspension and bushes etc...

Basically as is often noted the GT is what the DB7 should have started life like..

Put it this way.. the GT is almost a Vanquish with a DB7 chassis and body. That's the difference between the earlier DB7's and the GT in terms of driving and handling.

In fact the Clutch is Vanquish, Brakes are Vanquish, Seats are Vanquish plus it uses an active exhaust system.

So it's more Vanq than i6 that's for sure.

I was looking at the classifieds yesterday and only saw GTA's listed no GT's at the moment, unless one appeared right after I looked.

The GT's an awesome car. Best DB7 ever. In this case they really did save the best to last. It's way better than the GTA, it's got more power for a start. Looks amazing in Vertigo blue on a sunny day. One of my favourite Aston's ever. Get a good one and you won't be dissapointed. They're a future classic.
