I'm just playing with the idea at the moment, but the Virage seems to be an 'affordable' entry into Aston ownership.

Anyone have any comments? I'm looking at covering 5K PA and it would be a 3rd car.

Thanks

Tim

They cost a fortune to keep on the road. And now they are over 10 years, sills need inspecting. If they need replaced it's £10k.

I love Astons, but a Virage really is a money drain. You need to be passionate, willing to forgive the idiosyncrases and huge depreciation.

I would recommend an early 6 cylinder DB7 Coupe as a more realistic 3rd car. Prices now settled about £30k.

Well, like most things, there are two schools of thought on this. I have owned two manual Virages, far better and rarer than the automatic variety, and enjoyed both of them. Having also owned V8s, I found the Virage less finnicky and, therefore, cheaper to run. Once one gets used to the driving idiosyncracies of this particular model, it is not as well behaved as its predecessor, the V8, I found them great fun to drive, with all the usual Aston comforts. As the last of the hand built Astons, Virages, in my opinion, represent really good value at the moment, particularly the Volante version, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. I believe that they are now about as cheap as they are going to get. Perhaps I was lucky, but I had no problems with the sills and the last Virage I had was 11 years old when I purchased it.

Someone now races a Virage in the AMOC championship.

Might be worth going along to the next meeting and having a chat with him.

Don't worry you'll have time: never buy an Aston in a hurry...

If it's a red one, it's Rowan Atkinson isn't it?

I remember him racing one at an AMOC day a Brands a few years ago.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have to say a DB7 holds zero appeal for me, pretty but also a bit 'common' in some bizarre way. No offence to anyone.

Rowan races a Vantage Zagato and a DB2. The Virage I saw racing is (as far as I know) the only one racing at the moment.
