Vanquish - 3 months into ownership
Discussion
I thought Id share my experiences so far ..... Having traded in my 360 to buy my Vanquish in December, it hasn't hardly put a foot wrong.
The first week was awful, with head light not working, nail in front tyre on way home after picking it up, flat battery whilst getting tyre fixed, petrol flap not opening at the pumps, door check strap loose etc etc ... All minor and annoyingly should have been spotted and fixed prior to collection.
The dealer were fair enough and chose to send the car into AM Derby who sorted lights (HID aftermarket kit had been fitted and box had gone) and all other bits sorted and has since been fine.
I've since covered just over 2500 miles which bearing in mind the snow in Dec/Jan shows how easy it is to jump in and go (the Jag or the Aston is an easy morning dilemma). Recent trips down to Farnham and up to Manchester were effortless.
I get the odd gearbox fault message at startup, a whine at initial take off and the odd creak now and again, but on the whole the car is absolutely awesome and eats miles like no other car I've owned. It's not the sort of car to thrash off the lights in, but once youre rolling power is there in droves whenever the pedal is pushed.
One of the guys I work with affectionately named it "The Basta*d" as he couldn't say anything else when he first saw it ha ha.
It genuinely feels like it's name, the sound it makes and the way it wants to be driven hard are incredible. It's best described as relentless and I' sure it would happily eat it's way through other cars just to get to where it wants to go.
So am I pleased I chose the Vanquish over the DB9, yes I am. The DB9's auto box would invariably make the drive easier, but the noise ... Oh the noise, the aggressive look of the car and the way it drives when on the open road will do me just fine (for now anyway).
Despite being dark grey (almost black), it gets as much attention as a red Ferrari ... But a very different level of appreciation. Always got the impression that when blokes at petrol pumps would say "nice car" they were secretly thinking other things in the fezza. In the Aston they seem genuinely excited and many have shouted over that the Vanquish is their dream car and I believe them.
Anyone considering one but frightened about reliability should try one. I know when it goes wrong (and I know it will at some point), that it will result in a big bill but that it'll all be ok as soon as I pull back the paddles and push the red button again ha ha!!!
Brilliant car and I can't recommend it enough .... Definitely everything I want in a car (until I win the lottery and buy a One77).
Cheers!

Thanks all.
Neil, not at all ...
The Porsche was a great car and always felt solid and never any concerns about jumping in and going anywhere .. But it wasn't much of an event and didn't feel that special, although it was my only car for 4-5yrs and I covered over 50k mls so it was hardly likely to feel that special. Ownership was somewhat tainted by getting hit so hard in the pocket after one of these big deposit down, low'ish monthly payment and balloon after 4 yrs. Salesman did a great job in convincing me to px the tuscan which I had paid cash for and use it as a deposit, so bought 911tt for £68k, £26k down, £420/month, £28k balloon after 4yrs (but by that time car was only worth £24-25k). Losing all monthly payments was ok, but all my deposit ... and being negative equity was a bit painful. Decided at that point never to use finance again. None of this was the cars fault but sticks in my mind when I think of that car ... Car itself was great though. Awesome in the wet down country A roads.
Tuscan was epic in a straight lune and always exciting, with a great sound esp after carbon cans and decat, but reliability was appalling re electrics ... Every week had problems with window going down on it's own and door popping open ... Not great at night on motorway! Used as my only car for 6 months until I'd had enough of it.
Cerbera was more reliable and had very few issues with it really, despite being my only car. The lure of the Tuscan tempted me ... But the cerb was much stronger and better put together in my experience.
The Ferrari was far better than I thought it would be. The sound and feeling I got from driving it was intoxicating and every time I looked at it I smiled. It had all the excitement of the TVRs, better sound with near Porsche build quality.
Never had any concerns about engine or reliability ... Had to change it as it had only 2 seats and theres 3 of us.
Aston is best described as the most complete car. It has a boot ... Rear seats that are big enough for us mainly due to my mrs being 5' 4" .. If she was taller the back seats would be useless.
The sound is IMO better than any other car I've owned or heard. It doesn't feel old and personally I like the jag buttons .. They all work and do their job as they should and the cabins a generally nice place to be. Admittedly the dash is nicer either on later S cars or say a db9 ... But the butchness of the vanquish wins over a db9 and I can't afford the S without going down the finance route again-which I won't do after Porsche experience.
Whatever car you have ... After a while it can lose it's magic ... Especially if used every day, but go with what you fancy ... You're only here once!

It's been sat in my garage for 2-3 weeks waiting for a trip to DMS/Rick.
Just writing the list to handover inthe morning:
Coolant Leak
Using excessive Oil
Gearbox Fault Light
Might as well have it serviced (done 2.5k since its last major at Christmas)
General Check over
Wheel Refurb
Permanently Open Exhaust Valves
Just want it to be 'on song again' ... It's been a miserable few weeks driving the Jag!
